What happens when you drive them?

I'm curious about the resale of a Ferrari (say a 430) that is actually driven. Ferrari has a great reputation for re-sale, but if the reputation is based on cars that are not driven (1000 miles a year or less, IMO, is NOT driven), then isn't this much ballyhooed reputation a little hollow?

It seems when anyone asks opinions about the odd Ferrari with somewhat normal miles, the answer is the same (I remember a post a while back about a 2000 360 with 30 something thousand miles and everyone wrote and said leave it).

Most people do not drive a Ferrari every day for many reasons. For me, I don't enjoy it waiting in traffice or going to the grocery store (besides all other arguments). That does not mean it should be garaged but maybe for many it is "special" and loses something (more than money) if driven all the time. For others, money matters and so does mileage. We necessarily find out the durability and reliability of all models over time since virtually all (over whatever years) get driven a suitable abmount of miles (unless very expensive collectables) to answer most questions. Best

 

I've had mine since March, 2006 and have 18,000 smiles on it. I bought it to drive it!!!

I owned my 360 for 3 years. The gentlman paid the same I paid when a bought the car. Since I traded for the 2006 F430 at the dealer it is hard to know what I lost if anything.

My F430 gets about 3K miles a year mainly because I have other cars to share time with. I suspect to lose about $30k when I upgrade to whatever F car is newer.

Like all other cars, every mile you put on it makes it worth less. I'm a piker compared to Joe above. My 430 has 8K on it (22 months from new). I'm guessing it is worth at least 10K less than the same car would be with 2-3K on it. The good news is that every mile that goes on costs less than the last one.

I love going to the supermarket in mine! 12,000km in a year. Drive the bloody things, who we saving them for???

I put about 6000kms on my F430 since new last July and love driving it as often as I can, including to work, track, in the rain etc... I split it up with the M6 convertible which has 5000km on it already since March of this year.

I'm in the camp of drive it like its the last thing you will do while alive. I love it.

If I end up with an Enzo next year I will also drive it to work but perhaps not to the get groceries...

It depends on the Ferrari. 360's seem to drop $10,000 per year if you put on a few thousand miles per year. 430's don't seem to drop at this rate yet. It also depends on whether you can get a 430 car for MSRP, which no one seems to have been able to do, myself included. I picked up my 430 f1 spider and know that I can drive it 2,000 miles this year without losing any value. It currently is just under 1,000 miles. I put around 100 miles per month max because work is close to where I live and I drive the car 3 to 4 times per week.

 

I've had mine for about 2 months and have driven it daily..it came with 2400 miles ('05) and it now has 3775 miles...I'll continue to drive it everyday until summer ends (August or so) and then retire it for the winter...have late '08 F430 coming in so still need to keep the miles somewhat low for trade purpose, but when the new beast comes in, I won't hesitate about the miles...

P.S. I live in Texas and nobody every metions the A/C in these cars....they are the best! Black car w/ black leather and it cools down very quickly.

 

Sir, men like you are the reason these cars are built. You must enjoy your Ferrari more than anyone else on this forum, congratulations on not only a great investment, but a great perspective towards the driver's car.

I was able to enjoy 18K with my 360 before getting my F430. Lot's of very positive personal experiences and one of the best shared ones was seeing the service technician smile when he noticed the odometer on my car! He was ecstatic to see the car actually being driven!

JOEA2's 1200 miles/mth = lot's of memorable experiences. Miles driven/purchase price is the is the equation. higher the numerator the better

 

According to my tech, the 360 and newer cars are bullit proof and can be driven without worries. I had 32k on my 360 and it ran as well or better than it did in the mid teens. Do the service and enjoy the car.

 

My 2002 360 Spyder has 23K on it and I drive it every chance I get! I never understood keeping the miles low for the next guy.

I've personally worked on 360's with over 70,000 on the clock, and 355's with over 100k. I used to take care of cars owned by a company that used them for "track experience" days in the u.k, and although he was constantly shelling out for clutches and brakes and other service items, they rarely went wrong. I believe the problems come about purely from people skimping on items found during services etc. Hell, if i could afford to own one rather than just work on them, you woul have to physicaly prise me out of the drivers seat!!

 

Two weeks ago we drove to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix. Nine hundred miles and great roads. We loved it!!!

 

If you drive your Ferrari on more than just Sunday mornings, you will contract leprosy! Stay away! Lock it up!
