Just pulled the plugs on my 83 308QV and noted one sooty plug with a strong smell of gasoline. Other the checking the obvious bad plug wire, does anybody have other ideas of things I should check.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Ferrarichat Tony. :):)
Did the car have a missfire before you removed the plugs mate?
I would also think that you may have a leaking/bad injector to go with that fouled plug. :)

Pull the injector and check it to see if it's leaking under pressure. PB

Make sure the plug wire is connected well at the distributor cap. You might even unscrew the securing screw, trim off 1cm of wire and re-insert and tighten the screw back down to ensure a good connection.

If you don't have access to a professional workbench, then just try swapping the plug wire on one engine side with its same length mate on the other. Now swap the injectors from those two cylinders.

Install a clean new plug in place of your sooty, gas-soaked one. Then drive for half an hour.

Now pull the plug on the swapped mate side as well as the new plug.

    Either one gas-soaked this time?

The injector had better leak under pressure....it's a CIS car, not EFI :)

The injectors do get plugged up and don't spray right, so cleaning it might help....but I don't think that's it.

Check the plug extender, those things fail pretty regularly
