This important public service message was brought to you by Driving Schools everywhere, and regular citizens who kindly ask Ferrari owners to not let their teenage children drive their cars. Thank you.

Wow, I hope both father and son were alright. There was some mention recently of the incident in Tennessee where a dragster went out of control and careened into a nearby crowd killing seven people. I think the primary reason of that accident was inexperience, but with this accident, it seemed like the guy was just showing off.

If it's the same incident I am thinking about, the setup was a 'street race' type drag race, along a normal road, no barriers, fences, stands, nada. To me, that's like going to a gun range and watching from the alley, instead of behind the shooter. This may be harsh, but those people, and ANYone who stands on the side of the street like that to watch a drag race, is a complete and total moron and deserves the Darwin Award should they be so lucky to receive it. Their kids are just unfortunate to have to stand where mommy or daddy tells them, if any of them were hurt, it's not really their fault.

That was up on the east coast (the Ferrari).....I agree a VERY close call as you can see some spectators scrambling from right in front of the car.....

Unbelievable. It sounds his father let him drive the car in the caravan (probably should have known better in the first place) and the son wanted a bit of tail out action... albeit on a road surrounded by people. It wouldn't surprise me if some lawsuits surface because of this foolish act, regardless of whether or not anyone was hurt. These are exactly the kinds of people that make police escorts such a rarity these days. It's a shame at any rate.

I was quoting Trevor and clarifying for him the Tenn. wreck. If that wasn't clear to you, maybe ask a clarifying question before making a lame insult like that. Or, heaven forbid, googling "Tennessee drag racing wreck" and seeing what pops up.

    like: http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?seriesId=99&id=2906969

    Try harder next time, ok?

Sorry if I sound like ******, but you opened your mouth first and had no idea what you were talking about.

Bad idea to show off in front of the public unless you really really know what you are doing. Gentle control input and the Ferrari would of taken the corner just fine. Smoother to get on the throttle, and backing off the steering sooner with smaller movements and this would of been a non event.

I once hit a patch of oil while making a right turn in a rain storm, was probably the scariest moment of all my driving, Started to accelerate in the turn, very light, I was only at about 2,300RPM, all it took, just washed the rear end out. Kept it off the inside curb, and in my lane, definitely hairy moment though. If I'd of gone to full opposite lock I'd of stuffed it into oncoming traffic, I kicked in countersteer, kept a little power, realized I needed a little more countersteer as I was headed in for the curb, and just fed a little more in, noticed exactly when the rotation started changing, and began to back off the countersteer and straighten up.

I would seriously recommend finding some place safe and learning how your car acts - not just in the dry, but in the wet. Most driver's of a non ABS car have never practied a stop in the wet, or even in the dry. I have known two girls who had to stop suddenly for something in the wet, and so slammed the "stoppy" petal. Full lock up, skid into object trying to stop for...

On the road I live on, I practiced my stops between a speed limit sign and a mail box, in the dry or wet, I can accurately compare stopping distances. by how I come to a stop in relationship to the mailbox. In the wet, the brake bias is far to fowards, as you have less weight transfer due to lower grip, so braking distances are much much longer.

I guess I'm getting off topic, glad everyone managed to avoid being hit.

At least that 308 didn't have the Euro chin spoiler, if it had then there would have been significantly more body damage to the front end.
