    Taffy,

A few well placed comments if I may:

    1. No, $450k is not a world record price for the sale of an LP400 Periscopa.
    2. No, their prices will not shoot up to $1m in 12 months.
    3. Yes, if you own an LP400 and are selling, it is indeed a sellers maket - with the proviso that it is an excellent car with a pure provenance.

Funny....you have to wonder how much of this is real, and how much is talk from dealers and brokers.

Oh wait a minute, this is FChat -- it's all talk by dealers and brokers.

Didnt you PM me to say you had "heard" it was one of my cars? Why being so coy on this thread? Cmon, say what you know....LOL. Its OK, nobody minds at all :) Fact is, unless any deal is confirmed with documents by seller and/or buyer, its all pure speculation.

Ive been involved in the sales of 2 LP400 very recently. Both around the "$450k" you stated, but NOT at that number. Sometimes I am able to share exact numbers of the transactions I facilitate (with the express permission of the owners involved) and I do so regularly on F-Chat to the benefit of all. However on other occasions such as in the case of these 2 LP400, I am unable to disclose any specific numbers, purely the wish of the parties involved. Another 3rd transaction will go through shortly (we hope) at similar numbers yet again. I would say at the higher levels, most of the deals I facilitate are unadvertised and not disclosed. With the older classic cars, the 'behind-the-scenes' market is just part of the picture as its been for decades.

On a related front a Wolf car has broken $500k, and another Wolf car is asking a LOT more than that...

BTW there will be a number of LP400 at Concorso. We will have to see what shows. These events can be full of surprises.

So YES I did ask you on a PM, but you did not respond...SO are you responding now??

Was it YOUR Black LP400 that was sold for the $450K neighborhood while you where in Europe??

I was being "respectful" of your private sales of your own cars...

Thank you for understanding that there are some deals that the principals dont want discussed. I always ask the parties after the deal for permission so I can share: sometimes they say "yes", sometimes they say "no". I simply follow their wishes and apologize for any frustration that may cause the curious.

With current values, I bet you must be thrilled when you recall the number I secured 1120194 for you at :) As always, Im here to help when I can.

Oh, as for my own cars, I never discuss their aquisition or sale publicly. There are a few others that we had better not talk about either.... My 'private' collection remains, well, private. Just my simplification policy ;-).

    i dont understand that myself.
its obviously your perogative, but you're involved in a site thats main aim is to keep a register of cars and part of that involves owners and ownership changes and obviously you need people to inform you of any changes in details so why so reticent on letting people know about your own cars.

its also my understanding (though i could be wrong) but isnt car ownership pretty much a matter of public record - eg most countries require you to register cars etc.

I could venture a guess here...

Cars "Imported" into Europe pay a pretty hefty import tax...It is my understanding, from having sent two over there, that Holland is the least taxed. Both cars where shipped into Holland, taxes paid, stored there for 91 days and THEN re-shipped to the correct final point of ownership....

A PUBLIC record of the amount sold may not be the "same" amount that a bill of sell reflected for the point of entry and taxation due??

    Just a guess..NOT know truth....

Because of the shipper I use, the sales price, the invoice and the insurance amount must be the SAME. They are very strict and nowadays decline to ship unless everything matches. Owners do ask, but they decline. It keeps my life simple.
None of the deals I have facilitated has had the Netherlands as a destination. England, Germany & Switzerland are usually the direct destination.
