just got word that Ligier has signed on a US importer for their brand new sports racer "JS 49". The first model is already running in Florida with huge success. It has won NASA's two races this weekend in Sebring with the "slow" driver while the Radicals were not quite as fast with a pro driver.

Ligier was in F1 for 20 years (as some of you old folks will remember). Back to their roots with a sports racer and the thing is flying! Great looking as well.

The new US importer is 1/2 block away from me so a great chance to slap a dealer plate on the car and run it on I95 :)

They have their SCCA approval already. Will be fun. In a test day they were 1sec off the new Stohr 1000's best lap in Roebling Rd. and that with bad tires.

Paint the car French blue, slap on some Gitanes decals, and you have an great memory.

Very nice! Think we'll see this one in the ALMS soon? Let us know if you get a test drive and make sure you bring back photos.

Strange, this French car is unknown in Europe!!

As it is, it can't compete in LMS, so I don't know how it could compete in ALMS.

It only has a Honda Civic engine? (240 hp) and weight only 535 kg, and doesn't fit in any LM categories.

Looks like a track day car, no?
Which category does it race in the States?

    Looks awesome.

All it needs is a big Vaillant logo. :)

Not for LM. The car is classified for SCCA (can't remember which class though) and of course can compete in open classes like NASA and other race venues that are open to new arrivals. Don't know if they ever step up into the next level and do a ALMS or LMS spec racer.

Price wise this car is way less than the LP2s. For this car you pay $135,000 out the door race ready. Compared to the next generation Radical which weighs in at 200Lbs more than this baby at about the same price with the same engine, a pretty good deal to go club racing :)

But you don't get to enjoy "the real deal" of a historic race car.

The Ligier is faster than a Radical, that is for sure (proven last weekend in Sebring) so it will be interested to see if they can sell this racer for just above $130K compared to the heavier, less advanced Radical coming with the same Honda engine and seq gearbox.

$130k you can get a faster (much faster IMO) Phoenix/Stohr.

I see a couple issues, or points of interested i guess you can call them.

    Front Mono shock
Sadev gearbox...how easy to get support/parts in US?
Engine - Are they imported/available to the US, or is it a jdm spec motor?
Alum chassis - thats a lot of money to not get a composite hybrid or full monocoque.
Weight - 535kg is pretty heavy, other sports racers are 100-300lbs lighter (depends on if its wet and engine choice though).

Car definitely looks great, but i'm interested to see how it does in a CSR/DSR race.

Here is a great SR forum http://p081.ezboard.com/bdsrforum
