Hit from behind at stoplight - twice. (Wow, same as above!).
Hit a lightpole in a parking lot (considerable damage) - once.
Spun on icy road and hit a guardrail - once.

I've never hit another car. Have driven thousands of cars.

Thousands of cars??? that is more than 2 thousand? Uh let me do that math if you were to drive one for one minute and go to the next...Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm... I would say I have driven like 350 or 400 and I used to sell cars and I have owned more than 250 cars in 18 years. Man thats a lot of cars.....

When working for a busy Volkswagen dealership, I test drove almost every car that went through the service department, as a QCI, for about 7 years. That must have been easily 100 cars/week. Never had an accident, never ticketed, never stopped, never had to walk back to the shop. Also drove countless new and used cars while working for Acura - thousands.

I've had three really nasty accidents (one a triple fatality) happen within a stone throw of me while driving. But I wasn't directly involved.

A Scooter cut me off and the guy fell on the ground .
A pedestrian jumped out of nowhere and landed on my front fender and broke my mirror.
I kissed the kerb after spinning under the rain once and on the snow once.

Thats 5. All with my Alfa Spider :)

i've been in two. my first was i took out a mailbox, literally 10 minutes after school let out for summer my soph yr of hs (a little over zealous to get the hell out of there)
and my second was i rear ended a friend in his 240sx (he was messing around at a stop light, turned green, he waited, i didn't) my sunfire had considerable damage, his nissan had a couple of scratches. i couldn't help but laugh at that one.

Never bumped another car, person, or object, never been hit by one either.
edit: just remembered after reading Scott's story... last day of school, I was riding with a friend and he bumped into the car in front of us. We stopped but the person in front just kept driving so I guess they didn't have insurance or didn't care. But, I was an innocent passenger :D

    ~3 years of driving
I did run out of gas while driving though once

    I counted 6

The first one was when I was 15, "borrowed" mom's car, fell asleep behind the wheel, hit tree..OUCH

I have not had an accident that was even remotely my fault since I have had my license (unless you include spinning off the track :D)

3 rear ends--2 while stopped at stop light/sign, 1 on freeway when traffic stopped, the person behind me didn't.

1 sideswipe. Sitting in stopped traffic, minding my own business, truck beside me decides he wants to be in my lane. He dosen't realize until much too late that I am already occupying my lane....

1 car hit by drunk driver--car was parked in my DRIVEWAY at the time!!

Been hit once by a Ford Transit that, unlike me, didn't manage to stop for the red light. Fortunately no damage apart from a cracked plate holder (felt much stronger!). I'm not counting scratching my car against another while reversing (no damage to other car) and scraping a mirror on a pole as accidents. Have spun out about 3 times though (2 at my fault; 1 guy cut me off - I slammed on the brakes and ended facing traffic - would have ended on a barrier if not for the 3rd lane for turning left).

Edit; in just under 6yrs driving

In 22 years, I have never been in an accident of any kind, and I have never even broken a bone... and no I'm not a p***y, I'm just a safe driver even though I speed on occasion. :D (knocks on wood)

But I according to my insurance company I am a risk because I have 1 speeding ticket that I couldn't get off my record and the fact that I am 22 with a Porsche..... APPARENTLY I am more dangerous than a 95 year old woman that is half blind and yaps on her cell phone while driving because they pay less insurance than me. I HATE how they figure insurance rates......

Don't hate it... There's not supposed to be any bias there. It's all mathematics, statistics (actuarial science, right?). The factors or "predictors" that describe you are associated with some element risk on a large scale (youth, plus a propensity to speed, plus a car that's expensive to fix and prone to speeding [as derived from the statistics around the car]).

Yes, 90 y/o grannies can be dangerous... But on the macro scale... Over a large risk pool... 20 something hot shots (like us) in fancy cars are far more risky. I do have good news - rates get pretty reasonable once you hit 25, married, with a clean record. I pay $75/mo for the 328.

    From start to finish 34.

Racing friends, being struck by citizens while on public streets {a couple of bad collisions}, tracking, fooling around in the snow and rain, one bad off roading crash and I even had 3 damaged cars within a 7 day stretch.

The number may seem high but how many crashes and collisions does a race car driver have in his career? I may not have sponsors but I do race... a lot.

I voted 6 or more. Some are small, some are far more devastating.

Does a three month hospital stay in a serious accident only count as 1?

Your are not counting accidents that are not your fault.

I've had about 7 accidents in last 20 years NONE MY FAULT!!!!! [<-- riiight heard that one before]

ok, that's the way insurance claims read.

yup, ALWAYS REAR ENDED at a stop light, on a bridge or road slowdown, or stop sight...

freakin' people either not paying attention or doing something else: last one on cell phone, ya' think hands free would register but NOoooo....anyone cell in hand or not that drives with their hand on their head seems to loose all sense of awarness.

WORST rear-ender: BRAND NEW CELICA ....two days old a truck rear ends me, take it to shop, get it fixed, Mom [was a few years ago] wants me to drive her to Phoenix....stop on Golden Gate bridge and old lady rear ends me on a slow down: F***Kin again, same damage -- hated the car and got rid of it about 5 months later.

had a bad joke that I had been rear ended so many times...well, won't repeat it... but it kept my sense of humor up at the time....wife didn't think it was funny...well, wife of that time :)

3X driven in to at a stop and 2 rear-enders with me as the passenger (the latter of which was funny).

A old friend of mine had a 1947 Willy's truck with a piece of railroad track welded on it as the rear bumper. We were stopped at a light when we heard the screech and felt the thud. We hopped out only to find this rather (shall I say) effeminate guy in a tank top and cut off shorts had wedged his VW Bug convertible all the way up to the windscreen underneath Mike's truck. While we're laughing, Mike gets in the truck and pulls it off the wasted Bug and gets back out. As we both looked indifferently at the track/bumper, shrugged and tried to get back in the truck, the poofter began to shriek and then screamed, "HEY! WHAT ABOUT MY CAR?!? YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE ME LIKE THIS!!!" I looked at him and asked him if he was kidding. He just stood there quietly and we took off laughing!

How do I wreck thee... let me count the ways...

    '74 Chevy Luv:
1] '77; Wild-childin' at full-tilt boogie around granite-dusted corner and into orange tree. So much for 16-year-olds drifting in sand, aye?
2] '77; On way to party & into dry Irrigation Canal. Sweet's "Hang On, Help Is On It's Way" came on 8-Track right then. Never get directions from Pino again.

    '74 Toyota Corolla:
3] '79; 2 friends on hood, yes, hood (bonnet to UKers) of car, both on acid, as well as my right seat passenger. I'd already driven 6 miles one way, and 5 miles back with them on there, but, a combination of the hoodlums on hood, booze and pot I was drinking and smoking on their behalf [since they were trying to maximize their hallucinogenic buzz and all], meant I couldn't see too well. Hit a Judge's mailbox. They both went flyin' and disappeared into an orange grove. One of those was a brother of passenger. Passenger was hollerin', "You killed my Brother!" We pulled up ahead a bit & heard shotgun rack and *boom*, all lived to tell about it. BTW, at time of impact, AC/DC's "Gone Shootin'" was playing at @117 decibels. Good times, good times. *Laughs uproariously*

4] '80; One of my hoodlum friends was passenger as we left a stop sign. "Rocky Mountain Way" had just come on radio. We got rear-ended by a drunk driver. 3 witnesses said he was doing at least 100 mph, which cop verified, though he didn't mention it looking like it "was straight out of CHiPs(!)" like the witnesses did. I ended up with 3 solid years of non-stop, pounding headaches & a few scars for life. Because of where I was punctured on back of neck, I really should be dead or paralyzed, at best. Though not at fault in any way, I wised up to the dangers of drinking and driving because of that. Wouldn't want to be at fault for any reason, let alone because I was careless. I do not drink and drive. Period.

    '78 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham:
5] '82; Front end side-swiped at blind intersection. Semi with Enclosed Trailer was parked all the way up to corner stop sign. Neither myself or other driver could see a damn thing. Led Zeppelin - "You Shook Me."

    '71 VW Bug Convertible:
6] En route to a buyer. Car's Insurance expired at Midnight. Did you know a '65 Ford Galaxie is indestructible? 3-way Stop at a T. We faced each other, and as I was going straight after stopping, he didn't stop, but turned left. Entirely his also uninsured fault. BUT, Cop said he definitely wasn't worth going after, as he was not only the biggest heroin dealer in the county, but, the deadliest. They hadn't been able to pin jack on him, but, that was it. Using Super-Wax Strength, pulled fender into recognizable shape, though shock tower was collapsed & frame was bent. Sold Bug anyway. The guy's daughter liked the color. (You're gonna have to repaint it anyway!) I know it never ran the same again. No way. No tunes that day.

    '86 Chevy Nova
7] '87; In the Winter, roads are icy. Especially in certain places on certain mornings before the sun rises on the Beltway around DC. I stopped fine, but the car behind me didn't, then I hit the car in front, which hit the car in front... Surprisingly, mine was hardly affected at all. Buffed right out. It was exciting, though. Black Uhuru: "Big Spliff" Ain't nothin' like Black Ice and Black Uhuru. Man!

    '67 VW Hardtop
8] '89; Tule Fog is the thickest fog on the planet. Windows were down, to make best use of ears where eyes couldn't on the day of of the thickest fog, ever. Crossed 2 lanes & almost didn't manage to graze the entire driver's side of the van with original bumper. Fortunately, only damage to Bug was ripped metal from bumper brackets - it was already in primer & so forth as I was steadily readying it for paint when weather wouldn't affect paint job. Eventually, the BMW "Bronzit" color I thought would really set the car off... looked like crap on a Bug. Literally.

    '89 Saab 900
9] '00; Stop sign just below Melrose where Vine becomes Rossmore. A fella by the name of Ricky Racer overcorrected, braked, locked brakes... when he suddenly realized car in left lane had stopped for left turn, with signal on and all... therefore, the only squealing, exploding, metallic crunching inevitable thing left to do was plow into my front end. Thanks, buddy. Music to wreck by: Lou Reed; "Walk On The Wild Side."
