I'm 23. Unfortunately, I am very aware of how somebody with a bit more power over you can be abusive beyond belief. And I didn't vote for Bush/Cheney.
My age was only a factor because I was asked. I believe luke was thinking he dealing with a kid. Looks like a hell of an ordeal you wen through. I do realize that this can happen. And I hope everything works out for you on this. I believe this cop should have handled it differently. The kids were not helping matters by being so uncooperative either. But you are right he was the professional and should have handled himself differently. But I have always understood that when a police officer tels you to stop and you don't that is eluding and resisting arrest. I could be wrong. Even though the kids were not innocent by any means they will probably have all charges dropped. I am also sure the police officer will be disiplined. I don't think a massive campaign to call, Write or email the chief here is going to be needed. Especially from people who aren't even residents of the city.
I am very aware it can happen too. Although the cop could have handled the situation better. The kids were not by any means being cooperative either. I did both times. Still say he is better than either Kerry or Gore. But I don't understand what it has to do with this situation?
Kids were not being all that cooperative, but it looks like excessive force to me. At the start he's on top of a kid with his hand around his throat Darth Vader style. Then he puts two kids in a headlock at the same time like a real badass. I hope this guy is pushing pencils right now. He's not cut out for Police work. The other cops on scene are just standing there while this guy goes crazy.
So next time I get pulled over for speeding a measley 1MPH over the limit I shouldn't bother talking to the cop because what I was doing was right in my mind and just flee? No, regardless, when an officer wants to talk to you, you should listen especially when you might, just might be, doing something illegal. [I have the ticket somewhere around here for speeding 1MPH over, school zone. Got thrown out in court, thankfully.] Since I didn't see it posted: http://www.9and10news.com/category/story/?id=118655 He's on a wrongful administrative leave and five teens are being charged with an array of crimes. I'll admit that the cops actions were a bit extreme, but why would you flee from the cops if you had nothing to hide? It's stupid people like that that bring out the worst sides of cops. http://www.cityhs.net/pdfs/code/TITLE4.pdf Page 30. Not sure if the "Aristocrat" is anywhere in the areas adjacent to or in the prohibited zones.
Your comparisons are totally asinine. So it is a lame ordinance. I don't care how lame you think it is. It is in fact an ordinance and the kids were breaking the law. As far as my wife getting maced for not picking up dog Sh*t or my daughter getting thrown to the ground for a turn signal out. Please again really asinine comparisons. I don't think either would happen because I wouldn't marry or raise an idiot like those kids. They would have cooperated with the officer and been on there way. If the citation was unwarrented it would have been addressed in court. The officer didn't handle this correctly I give you that but the kids were definitely in the wrong from the word go.
State Law is not on the same level as City Ordinance. Speeding is State Law. City Ordinance is things like "pick up after your pets at the park", "don't put trash cans out for pickup on non-pickup days" None of which warrant putting bratty 13 year old kids in headlocks and chokeholds for breaking. If you're such as weak ass cop that you can't physically control a 64 pound 13 year old girl without putting her in a headlock, or sitting on them and putting your hand around the throat, when you're 5' 8" and 225 pounds, you don't need to be a cop. Also if 13 year old kids can make you snap so easy and go crazy, you're not cut out for police work. The kids were obviously brats, I don't argue that. But chasing them around like they were bank robbers, putting them in choke holds and headlocks? He dealt with the situation poorly at best. The cop has a very fragile ego and is obviously not cut out for that line of work.
i would have punched the cop, if he grabbed some girl like that. why did he even grab her by her throat for? she was just complaining to him and he sprung like a bear..
I doubt it and if you did I would have enjoyed the part of the video where he slammed you to the ground. The fact is he had two kids get way too close while he was trying to make an arrest. I'm not saying that it was exactly justified but the fact is you stay the f--- out the way while the arrest is being made and deal with it afterwards. There is no reason that those kids should have been that close to the officer who was making the arrest. They have a video and if they thought it was wrong they should have stayed out of his way and taped it and let the lawyers figured it out. Disclaimer: In my younger days ( when I was young and dumb) I have been arrested for circumstances not at all that different and it turned out just fine (as in I didn't resist, neither did my friends) But I'm sure that people who have no experience with the situation will cry about it all day long. Not to really make this arguement(sic) any worse but my stepfather was a police officer as well.
Wonderful. The next evolution in law enforcement is vigilante public executioner? Bullet to the head, right down the line. "If you are not one of us, you're one of them" - the law enforcement community
You know, pulling a 13 year old kid/girl out of a crowd and doing that would be one thing, you guys aren't looking at the big picture. Here's one police officer trying to deal with a handfull of kids (that have broken the law) and do his job. They are running away, running their mouth and confronting the officer. I do believe at least one of them rushed up and touched him. Now, as it turns out the group of kids was indeed just a group of kids and never really presented a threat, but the officer doesn't have the ability to look back and see everything is ok. Could he have been less forceful, maybe. Should he put his life on the line because the person(s) that he was trying to arrest were young or females. Well, you'd be pretty ignorant to think they don't present a threat. I think both sides owe each other an opology.
So in a car chase it's a known fact that no matter what happens you're getting slammed to the ground!? That's idiotic. If there's no call for it, the cop is still up **** creek without a paddle. You don't know how any of this happened, you just don't like the fact that the kids were being disrespectful to a cop.
Who said the kids had to help the police? If a cop knocks on your door in my town and asks to search the place I can slam it in his face. If a cop on the street asks me for ID as I'm walking down the street I'll ask him if I'm under arrest and if I'm not I can tell him he's not going to see anything. Cops can't harass people whenever they want. Cops who bully should be bounced out of the system. I've been hounded by a local cop once, it didn't take long for him to learn the error of his ways either.
His comparisons are on the ball. If that was your daughter you would brush this off? That would make for a very weak parent. If your wife was to walk your dog and forget to bring a bag, what should happen? She apparently would be thumbing her nose at the law and still unable to follow the officer's instruction, by your own words she would be resisting the cops orders and that woman would then be thrown face first to the sidewalk and cuffed. Serves her right for not obeying the law. Oh wait that sounds retarded!!! The kids were being asses. It doesn't mean they should be handled like an armed robber. Get your head on straight, no way was any of that legal or just.
This has made Digg.com http://www.digg.com/videos/sports/Cop_assaults_and_arrests_teens_for_skateboarding With well over 1132 people Diggs
That cop should be fired and never be allowed to work as a cop again. What a total ****** he is. You guys defending him are unbelieveable. First you make a HUGE assumption that the 1st kid was trying to get away from him, then you say it was OK for him to start grabbing these poor kids around the neck. Un frickin believeable. There is a fine line between certain cops and the criminals that they are trying to arrest. This guy is one of them. He is a time bomb waiting to go off.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but i belive i saw 2 officers (other wearing a bike helmet). Not sure if it makes a difference, but i didnt see the other cop being much active.
