Has anyone with a F430 F1 floored it from a dead stop? What will happen? Will the car hesitate, spin the tires, fry the clutch?
I always make sure the clutch has engaged before I get on the gas hard.

No! No one here has ever floored their amazingly fast Ferrari F430. I thought these cars were for looking at...???

    ;-) Sorry couldn't resist.

That is what it is made for. How can you achieve a 0-100km/hr without doing that ;).
No car hesitation, no tire spinning, clutch will definitely handle it...you are starting from a low rpm.

I'm talking about from a dead stop off idle. I have never put the pedal to the floor from a dead stop off of idle. It is not an American hot rod or Mercedes and the car was not designed for launches from a dead stop.

When I accelerate it hard from a dead stop the clutch seems to have a lot of slip before it fully engages. I was wondering if this would severly reduce the clutch life. We all know that launch control does

Taking off from a dead stop off idle should not be a problem and clutch should engage immediately without any slippage nor harm. It's the launch control which harms the clutch severely.

I was told it is best to start a roll first then you can hammer it.
My 360 didnt like a full throttle from a dead stop. I tried that once.

430 clutch engages. No squealing tires. Very different from my SL55.

Are you sure about the launch control wear??? I have six track days, five launch control starts, 10,800 miles and 11% clutch wear.

I don't think Stradale owners should be so hesitant to try launch control. Everyone is too nervous about this issue. My guess would be backing up one hill is more wear than a launch control start. But either way I strongly suggest you give it a try. These cars are not that fragile!!!

One other suggestion. If you are really nervous spread a little sand on the road and start the wheels spinning there. The rest is just pure fun!!

Just my opinion, but why would Ferrari put it there if they didn't expect us to use it at least a few times.

I've tried launching it once or twice, but usually get the car rolling before flooring it. It will slip the clutch slightly and then launch off. Don't know about really flooring it from start. Don't really like the smell of clutch.

I recently was at a light next to my buddies Lambo Merc...I put my F430 in race mode and floored the gas...the rear of the car went back and forth for a bit but everything caught up quick...It was great!

you would not need to floor it after rolling if you can...maybe... get a F technician to show you how to activate LC.

My 360 F1 would not launch well. It lit up the clutch every time. Which is why I stopped after a few tries. Smelling that 360 clutch broke my heart! Sure, that would cause it to go fast from a stop, but it wasn't worth hurting the clutch that much. I never figured out how to launch that car from a dead stop.

My friend has a CS. I know for a fact the CS handles launches better than the 360 F1. It would simply smoke the tires throughout first gear, just as it should. No clutch smell.

I drove a F430 F1 too. Although I didn't launch it, the F1 was so much better than the 360 F1 that I'd imagine it must handle a launch better.

Anytime a clutch is slipping, it is wearing regardless if the car has two or three pedals.

My understanding is we in North America do not have the FABLED "launch control" option for insurance reasons! So I'm assuming those of you talking about launch control are from other areas besides N.A. Is there a way to get around it?

All Challenge Stradale's came with launch control but I believe it was not done for any USA F430s. Yes they can get it in Europe etc. Maybe all F430's have it outside North America.

SAND!?!?! Are you insane!? Umm, yeah, I wanna launch my car by sandblasting the rear quarter panels.. why not put down a couple puddles of water?

On another note, this is yet another reason why I don't like F1 transmissions. I love the feel of positive clutch engagement when I want the thing engaged, not a computer.

I thought the launch control actually protects the clutch by letting it wheelspin.

This is exactly why, after dreaming of owning an F1 car for two years, after actually driving one for five minutes then driving a 6-speed for five minutes, I bought a six speed.

Are you guys kidding me? Tell me this isn't true, I am seriously getting depressed?

    1. You can't floor a Ferrari? Isn't this supposed to be the best of the best?

    2. Some of you have only done it once?

They are talking about from a dead stop, which apparently throws the F1 clutch into a frenzy of indecision and some degree of clutch slip. Those of us with three pedals don't have to worry about it.

Insane?? Wow that was pretty strong!! You must be very emotionally insecure about your clutch. I strongly suggest you don't drive your Ferrari as it is happier in the garage. Have a nice day!
