Read what you will out of this, but the IMS website reported that Indy sent off tractor equipment used strictly for the F1 races to the military in Iraq. We know Tony may soon announce the MotoGP according the IndyStar newspaper, now this. Seems to add up huh?

Until July 12 I would not read anything into anything that Bernie does. He is famous for positioning himself for negotiation.

Nevertheless, the USA can support two F1 races.

Iraq GP? They could probably use some tourism there these days. :)

Seriously though - I've never been to LV and have no desire to go. But if they had a road race there, I would definitely make it out there.

Maybe Bernie just wanted a few days on holiday.

Being that I am from Vegas and love it to death, I welcome any reason to go back. I think a Vegas street race could be great; most of the roads used would be plenty wide to support actual racing and the city itself is amazing. My fingers are crossed.

That is definitely how it should be. The United States Grand Prix, and The United States Grand Prix West, like how it used to be with Long Beach and Watkins Glen in the good 'ol days.

I dunno from everything I've read F1 is almost ready to throw in the towel on the US market. It just doesn't sell here because of the nascar hill billy mania. If it ever became popular like in Europe then absolutely.

could they have vegas ready in a year? I know they would likely use the streets, but I am sure some prep work will heve to be done to the streets, maybe put in some corners, construct some garages, ect.

Although Laguna Seca is a great track, it is far from sufficient for an F1 race.

Vegas could very well be a possibility. Bernie was quoted as poo-pooing the idea a while back and was maybe just playing his poker face ;) A Vegas venue would begin to put F1 on the map in the US IMO. It would also bring a ton of new foreign customers to Vegas. Hope it happens.

That GP in the Caesar's Palace parking lot in the early 80s was a low point in F1 history, as far as I'm concerned. This despite the fact that Alboreto won in a Ferrari, as I recall.

The west coast 'gets' F1 more than the midwest I think. Vegas holds more giant conventions than any other palce on the planet. The town undoubtedly has the infrastructure to handle such an event with its eyes closed. The issue most fans have is, are we to use the cart track that they used in spring, or do we look for a different set of roads to hold the F1 event.

Regarding the cart track. My brother-in-law is a seargant with Metro PD in Vegas, and he stated to me that it went off without a hitch. The track was up and down in a ludicrously quick amount of time, and safety was paramount. Dressing the same track up for F1 would be a non-issue for this town. As I said in the other post, I don't think there is any other town in the US that would be able to handle it better. Not by a long shot.
