    +1

It was the tail end Testarossa, not to mention the LAST flat engine Ferrari. No competition at all...

Yep, I'll take the LeMans win!

That car gets better looking the older it gets. Awesome pics. Thanks.

I remember going to London in 1998 (roughly) and there was a car dealership with a Mclaren F1 for sale in Hyde Park. Was walking by and saw it. Went in and sat in it etc. IIRC I thought it was a Mclaren dealership - but I may be getting delusional. The dealership staff were not worried in the slightest and were very accommodating. I was in a suit :)..

And yes, I would have to say perhaps the greatest supercar of all. One that still holds it own today - performance wise.

It never did anything for me, but I understand the demand and dreams of this car. It outpoweres Veyron in BHP/weight ratio, chew on that, Enzo! Last of the truly extreme supercars.

Heh, I went there 5 years ago this month and couldn't sit in it. They had stop signs printed on paper on each of the seats, lol. Although I wasn't wearing a suit...btw it took me longer than it should have to realize the door handle to the building was the F1 logo.

Exactly, your basically an ass to question the car that won Le Mans in 95. By the way this is the internet, knock off the bs about the commrade crap while you are at it, tea jerk off.

By the way this is not mean't towards you Alex, just responding to the Idiot Poster that you responded too.

    Dear Comrade 410SA,

This Mclaren post should never have been placed here. It should be on Mclaren.chat.com not amongst properly engineered Ferrari's whose engine's are from the manufacturer itself and not from a German mass producer. If the moderators were performing their task correctly this thread would have long since been removed.

    With kind regards,

    512 Tea Are

The company accomplished such a feat most will never do in it's 5 years of life.
First company to win LeMans first time out, and build road legal production car that could reach a record breaking 240Mph, and become a history making machine.
As for wonders, only the F1 could be considered one....The company that built it though, it still very much alive with supercars as it was as a racing team during Bruce's days. In fact, the F1 was Bruce's dream. He dreamed of creating supercars for the world.

And before dissing the engine, just know Honda was asked first before BMW.

As for this not being, "McLaren.chat", it's also not Lamborghinichat, Other italians chat, offtopic chat, or PG-13 chat, yet...there are sub-forums dedicated to them?

    Dear Comrades,

Can someone speak to a Moderator, please, and thus have this infidel thread removed from ths Ferrari 288, GTO, F-40, F-60, Enzo section as it has no place amongst properly designed and engineered motor cars of the utmost integrity.

    With kind regards,

    512 Tea Are

    Dear Comrade,

May I respectfully remind you that this is not the place for anything other than the motor cars that are within the category heading. I see nothing there concerning Mclaren and therefore this thread should not be here. The whole point of categorisation is so that everything is kept orderly and not diluted with other inconsequential matters such as cars that have been created with engines from a German mass producer. I am merely endeavouring to maintain the integrity of this category of Ferrari 288 GTO, F-40, F-50 and Enzo.

    With kind regards,

    512 Tea Are

The thread has been in this section since 2004...maybe if you said something years ago someone may have cared but I doubt it.

This is not true. Other companies have won Le Mans first time out. Ferrari for example.

He's talking about the modern era. i.e. we all know the very first LeMans winner won their first time out since there were no races before then...

The McLaren F1.....possibly the greatest car ever made...an absolute icon of performance, engineering, construction, and no compromise approach.

I was asked once, if I would ever package my cars together and trade for a McLaren F1. I would be very, very tempted. The only thing that would stop me is parting with the F40, which I cherish.

But as far as autos go, it is my shangri-la.....

In the era '95, technology had grown since the 60's. Everyone at Le Mans was now equal, or near so. The fact that this "2 year old" company was going to win against Porsche and others was unthinkable. But it did.
Yes, many like Bentley and Bugatti have won, but it's pretty easy to win a 24 hour race that was only 26 years at the time, and at an age where cars were not exactly built to run for 24 hours at 60+mph constantly.
But in the end, McLaren has truely set itself at the ranks of Ferrari, Porsche, and many more. In just 5 years of supercar life. Not an easy goal these days.

Ford did not. Henry Ford II had no interest in Le Mans until Enzo backed out of his deal to buy Ferrari. After all 3 cars failed in 1964, and a better, but still unsuccessful race in 1965, Ford finally got its win 1966 (as we all know) at the hands of Chris Amon, and Bruce McLaren.

    Thank you Alex.

as for 512Tea Are, Shut it. We've heard your bit, we understand you don't like it, but the rest of us simply do not share your opinion whatsoever. Take your beef to a different thread.

This thread has not been reported to us mods and won't likely be moved until someone actually reports it to us. We try to keep track of threads but we can't always move inappropriately placed threads from 3 years ago that just got bumped 24 hours prior.

I don't have mod powers in this particular forum but if you want the thread reported you have all the right to report it yourself.

    Proceed!

512, glad you're trying to "maintain" the integrity of this forum. Although it seems to me 410SA and various others are doing a fine job of that already - if you can't sit back, relax and enjoy a story about one of the most amazing automobiles ever produced keeping company with a truly spectacular collection of Ferrari's... why are you even here?

410, maybe you could post a couple pics of your cars just to keep this guy happy? Plus, it'd be an excuse for me to look at some more fantastic machines... which I personally could never complain about.

^ there are lots of his pictures scattered around, check the garage thread in the showroom forum.

512 what is the deal with the dear comrade, not trying to be mean, but this place is relaxed, and the thread was from 2004, a while ago, and if you look through there are other threads about other super cars, its not like the forum is hurt when there is this thread, so relax just call me matt instead comrade, and enjoy the pics

FWIW the garage pictured in the Mclaren pics houses several Ferraris including a couple of the supercars that the very pompous comrade is citing as subjects of this particular sub category. It's a lazy Sunday and I'm not going to post any more pictures but a search in the supercar area will uncover several photos of the same garage. I believe this is sufficient reason to have the Mclaren pics here :)

(I guess the reason why "Great" Britain has devolved from an Empire into a 3rd rate non-power is clear when the comrade's mental state is revealed in this series of objections)
