Ron posts here in Racing quite a lot and this is why I want to make you aware that he was in an accident today and by miracle survived.
He was stopped on I95 on his way to my house to watch the French GP and thought he had a flat. He got out of the car, checked around and got back in the car. At that moment a BMW spun out of control and his another car then him. His excellent 512BBi burst into flames and he was trapped but finally managed to crawl out of the passenger seat. A good samaritan helped pull im out of the flaming car.
He is OK and has "only" burns to his hand and leg and of course is shaken up. After a few hours of surgery at the burn unit we were able to visit him a few hours ago. He is fine and will make it, no question.

Ron is a passionate racing fan. Keep him in your prayers.

Glad to hear that he's okay and I hope he makes a speedy recovery. He's definitely one of the members that posts in the racing section that I want to meet in person some day.

i have no idea...sad. but for now we would all agree that the car is secondary.

we will mourn the boxer as soon as we know ron is well!

wasn't worried about the car, more concerned Ron is fine but it does seem weird that they would use that saw AFTER he is out ... I had the roof cut off my GT4 after it rolled and I was still in it, standard procedure to cut the roof off to get neck injured people out, but to start cutting up the BB when no-one is in it seems strange

I never realized just how dangerous it is to pull off on the side of the highway, until I watched some online videos....The videos were filmed from Highway Patrol cars from around the nation....
Here is a link to the videos (look for the "crash" section"):

I hope that Ron has a speedy recovery!

Much relieved to hear that Ron will recover. That's the important part.

That car isn't going to be easy to replace. -- But my Alfa mechanic always said: it's easier to replace cars than customers.

Sounds like they had a lot of rain going on there.

Consider the irony: while checking his tires, he got hit by someone that didn't check his.

Glad to hear that Ron is OK. One always has to assume the worse can happen when pulled over on a high speed road. We have had so many of our firefighters nearly hit by cars while putting out fires and tending to victims on highways that we now respond 2 trucks to all highway calls so that the 2nd one can be a blocker parked on a slight angle. The only reason I can see for them cutting into the car was to get to something that was burning but even then you have to weigh the damage your are doing to such a car.
Again thank God Ron is safe.
