You are forgetting a few important things:

    1. Renault has self destructed, so McLaren did not have to do much to pass them this year ... everybody is.
    2. McLaren have hired more consist drivers this year.
    3. McLaren is not Minardi so they are always in the top 3 and thus only little improvements make big differences.

RD is Lucifer ... never forget that :D

it's the only thing that makes sense in this whole scenario ....

the ONE fact I find interesting is that there was a warrant issued for a search and it was granted, I'd love to know on what grounds this was granted

THEN they find stuff in Coughlan's house from Ferrari ... was it his collection of Forza and Cavallino ???

+ 1. I think that is what the FIA will hang their hat on assuming they hit McLaren-I see some WCC points being taken away.

Whether they used the info or not is irrelevant; thus far it is fairly certain that a crime has been committed-Ferrari produced enough evidence to justify the issuance of a search warrant and McLaren sacking their Chief Designer speaks volumes.

If FIA does nothing then it sends a message that it is ok to flat out steal your opponents' technical data-this is a massive black eye on McLaren and F1.....

I dunno guys, we can sit here and debate about things when we really don't know all the facts, great fun, but mainly pissing in the wind. All i know is that at this point, this great so far season, indeed our sport, is in jeopardy of being tarnished. I would hate to be in the FIA's position right now. If they do anything such as penalties, etc, and it is far too early to do anything right now, then they wreck the most competive season in recent years. If they do nothing they seem to condone such behavior amongst the teams. A lose/lose at any rate. Regardless of how i feel, or anyone else feels about this whole deal, it's bad for everyone. I hope this thing gets squashed and soon.

i picked up todays newspaper, and it says that the powder found on the fuel tanks were indeed detergent. plus, it also said that Stepney sold some technical information belonging to the Scuderia, for millions of pounds.

Ferrari believes that those valuable info put them on the back foot since monaco, US and Canadian GP, while Mac ran away with those races.

It was also mentioned that Lewis's position as the WDC leader could be potentially under threat.

McL claims they didn't use the information for which millions of pounds were paid. Right.

And the information was kept and not returned to Ferrari because....

It would have been very simple for McL to let SF and FIA know that they had the documents and made arrangements to return them. We are asked to believe that an employee alone had the funds to pay for the information and then didn't tell anybody on the team. This is almost too impossible to believe.

I think given the choise of the two, the FIA would pick to send out a message and punish Mclaren. The longevity and reputation of the sport far outweight one competiteve season. They could lose A LOT of money in the future if they give Mclaren a pass, if the allegations againts Mclaren are true that is. Assuming Mclaren are 100% guilty of all chargers, I think they should just be flat out excluded from both the WCC and WDC. Yes it would wreck this seaons, but the reputation of the sport is far too important.

    BBC SAYS:

The development is highly embarrassing for McLaren, whose boss Ron Dennis periodically makes a point of pointing out the nefariousness of rivals who he claims have been caught trying to spy on the team.

Have some crow with that foot in your mouth, Ron.

    Talking of newspapers...

Today's Gazzetta Di Modena (our local paper here in Modena, and of course completely impartial ;)) has a big article on this including front page coverage in which there are some more claims (allegations?) that are interesting:

(in no particular order, and I stress that these are "claims" from the newspaper)

    1. Nigel Stepney's uniform worn at Monaco has been seized by investigators and is undergoing forensic analysis for traces of "a chemical substance"
    2. There were no less than 700 secret Ferrari documents found at the McL chief designer's residence covering a range of dates
    3. Said Chief Designer's wife is also under Police investigation in UK (also worked in F1)

Even my wife's stopped wathing Big Brother on TV and is following this with interest...

Actually, I do know. Ferrari has already confirmed that Coughlan recieved extensive data, by extensive they go on to clarify that it was the entire design documents of the F2007. The Ferraristone relationship is 10 years long. Everything they know to date has culminated in the F2007.

That said, I have been trying to contact my sources in the pit lane but they have gone silent on the subject, probably fearing any kind of implication. Not that you guys will believe anything I say anyway. :D :D :D

OBVIOUSLY THEY HAVE GONE SILENT. Most probably they have been so instructed by Ferrari lawyers.

It's amazing how everyone comes out of the woodwork and says they know everything about what's transpiring . . . .you guys are worse than a bunch of women.

no, there is no way we could be worse than a bunch of women !!

we haven't descended into the color schemes yet ........

This just happens to be a public domain chat forum where all we are doing is commenting on the information coming from Reuters, BBC, and then the dodgy internet sites, nobody here has any influence on the outcome but this information fuels the fire for the reasons behind some of the events in the last couple of months where people ask "what has happened since the first few rounds ?"

Suddenly the McLaren team are nearly a second ahead while still in "catch up mode" getting their chassis tuned to the Bridgestone tyres , it can happen but the information they received had no bearing on that ??

OTOH sure, let's all shut up and accept RD word for it, a few hundred million dollars of sponsorship means nothing to him
