Just checking up on the BMW website...the 1 series is comming back! It looks like they are going to put the same twin turbo motor from the 335 in it.

Can you imagine what that car is going to do? Smaller and lighter than a 3, and with the same underrated powerhouse of a 335?

I may have to hold off the 335ci purchase....

The last I talked to Mr Bangle they were really wanting more power before fully committing the 1 class fully to the US market... Sounds right and it would make a hell of a little beast

This is a good car for those who miss the smaller size of the E30, and feel each successive 3 has been getting too big.

+1 - new 3 coupe looks kind of bloated.

That would be most of us.

    Here is some interesting tidbits:

The current (eyebrow) 5 series has larger interior dimensions the the old (my favorite generation) E38 short wheel 7 series.

The current 3 series is larger then the two generation old E34 5 series (ie the one in Ronin) and the three generation old E23 7 series!

That's what I heard too- hatch's don't sell well here in the States. Been tried before with dismall results. How long did the Mercedes C-class hatch last just a number of years ago? I've seen more Ferrari's this summer than those things!

I had a 130 Msport hatchback. Fabtastic little car, more sporty then the 330 too. So if you like the 335, you will LOVE the 135. It comes with the option of MASSIVELY uprated brakes too.

    I'm apathetic towards the styling

I'm sure I'll hate the price

I like the engine but my god that is ugly. I would spend the extra and buy the new 335i. The new 3 series coupe is really good looking

And did you just not see the other posts? You know the ones about this car being more a move back to the basics of BMW?

    I like it
I would consider buying it almost immediately
This is a true BMW in the 2002 tradition. Useful size, flexible carrying capacity, comfortable, good gas mileage, reliable, would cruise high speed all day, superb street suspension.

We had a 318 ti Compact in Germany 1996-1999 and it was similarly brilliant.

IDrive is doodoo, simple is best.

I like the idea of this BMW, I wish they would have kept some styling cues less dramatic (e.g. the headlights); however, it must be noted that BMW did a great job keeping the 2002 proportions, short rear, big greenhouse, etc.
