Here's excerpts from another article on Autosport this morning . . I like the way McLaren has addressed any speculation . . Carol McLaren say no intellectual property from the Ferrari team has been used in the design of their cars. The British team said on Wednesday that, after a thorough investigation, they could confirm that no Ferrari intellectual property has been used in their cars, and that no other member of their team had received the information. "Following our statement of 3rd July 2007, McLaren has completed a thorough investigation and can confirm that no Ferrari intellectual property has been passed to any other members of the team or incorporated into its cars," said the team in a statement. McLaren also invited the FIA to conduct a full review of the cars. "McLaren has in the meanwhile openly disclosed these matters to the FIA and Ferrari and sought to satisfy any concerns that have arisen from this matter," the statement added. "In order to address some of the speculation McLaren has invited the FIA to conduct a full review of its cars to satisfy itself that the team has not benefited from any intellectual property of another competitor. "No further comment will be made."
If they used the alleged information or not isn't the issue. It's the possesion of said information. And if it's proven that McLaren indeed have or had said information this will or should have repercussions for McLaren for their business. If FIA lets that one go buy they can't be taken serious (not a first..) If for example it became known that team A was sponsored 100% by drug dealing that is not technically a breaking of the sporting rules (no illegal wings) but it does jeapordize (sp?) the image of the sport and FIA can't or shouldn't allow that. So first we need to know if the allegations are proven. Or maybe not. FIA might decide that the damage has already been done. What if this criminal/legal process takes longer than this year? It puts the whole championship in a unsure state. That's the most sad part of all this.
how in the world could they make this statement unless they know what is on the Ferrari? Coughlin made no changes to the car in the last 2 months?
it's Ronspeak for 'the cheques in the mail' I suppose the Toyota incident was all smoke and mirrors too ?
This just in: In what could become one of the biggest scandals in recent times within Formula One, the Ferrari team revealed today that they received a tip off from someone outside of the sport regarding the alleged transfer of team information. The following is a press release from the Italian team. 'Ferrari wishes to clarify that the English police have so far not been involved in investigating the theft of technical information.' 'It was brought to Ferrari's attention by a third party outside Formula 1 racing within the last fortnight, that a senior member of the technical staff within the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team might be in possession of highly sensitive Ferrari information. ' 'Ferrari reviewed the evidence and consulted London lawyers towards the end of last week. ' 'Ferrari then made an urgent application to the High Court in London on 2 July for the court's assistance.' 'As is usual with this kind of court order, Ferrari is currently prevented by the court from making any public statement about the information that it gained as a result of serving the court order.' 'At the same time, an investigation is being carried out into the same subject by the Modena Court, therefore no further comment will be forthcoming, in order to respect the legal process in both countries.' sorry but that statement is wrong. if someone sends/emails you some stolen information then suddenly your in possession of said information. you didnt ask for it you didnt pay for it you might not have any idea what it is. you might not even know its stolen so pls tell me how you can be punished for someone else sending it ? surely its what you do with said information thats important in this case ?????
The honorable and honest thing to do is to report it to the property owner and/or the police. then you are OK. Otherwise it appears like a coverup at best and complicity at worst.
IMO the top teams know what each is up to and find out in some way or other. In this case the weak link just happened to get caught and called out. It's similar to cycling, the best dopers don't get caught but they're all doing it and given the chance will rat each other out over it.
If you receive something that you suspect is stolen the only right thing to do is to report it to the police immediately. The "I didn't know it was stolen" argument doesn't hold IMO.
I probably have some offers on counterfeited Viagra in my mailbox. I usually just delete these without reporting to proper authorities. Right now it looks like we are trying to assign a punishment for something we have no facts on. What if it all turns out to Stephney sent documents to McLaren guy saying - Hey my old pal - I am lost - can you look at this and tell me how to improve the car ? And that resulted in Ferrari improvements for France. Let's stop guessing and wait for the facts.
You can't be serious! Surely? - These guys wouldn't share the drippings from their nose let alone tell a competitor how to make their car faster - and not just any competitor, Mac to Ferrari.
Please you and Nick have to stop making me laugh and Im sure some others are also laughing. Your 2 posts could fit in with the following statements. - Oh honey I dont know how my undies wound up in Joes glove box. - Hmmm officer I didnt know that was in my trunk. - Yes dad Ron Jerremy will have me home by midnight. - That wasnt me speeding officer. It was the other guy I just passed. - Yes there were weapons of mass destruction there...well last month anyway. - my fav- it must be true, its on F-chat
McCullough may be running an F1 consulting business from his home if his McLaren contract permits it. I am not serious - I just want to point out that we should refrain from lynching without facts.
[I hope!] Trust me, Coughlans contract will specify that he can't even visit Maranello by himself, let alone run a 3rd party consulting biz - He is (was) their chief designer after all...... I'm also not looking to lynch anyone (yet at least). I also think the identity of "deep throat" (the "person outside of F1" who instigated the investigation and subsequent raid) is going to be an interesting revelation - Coughlans cleaning lady is a closet Ferrari fan? And, as I've said before, I still find it really hard to believe the Stepney went from "disgruntled employee" to leper so fast - Poisoning the fuel, blowing up the windtunnel and handing over Ferraris F1 history seems like a really good way to end your career...... Cheers, Ian Ps - It *is* entertaining though
Good analogy. Except stuff like this ruins the sport. I wouldn't watch a bicycle race if you paid me. Well, maybe if you paid me alot.
This is FerrariChat, there are some here who couldn't make an objective decision if their life depended on it...
Isn't this like saying "well yeah i porked your wife but i didn't enjoy it"? Give the damned info back. Jeez
