Well, this will be my 2nd post "outing" a few folks on the Racing section for being very very quick to jump on a bandwagon (or to jump off it). I have maintained all along that Kimi is a great driver and I could not understand why he had not performed better at Ferrari. Some other folks had more "enlightened" (extreme sarcasm) ideas about Kimi. I dont think there is any problem with thinking he needs to improve (because he does), and its got nothing to do with gloating about 2 good performances from Kimi. It's about being too quick to rush to extreme judgements based on IMO lack of understanding, lack of restraint and just being too much of a bandwagon jumper! Let's get started...

How much was the bet for, Ronnie?

Crow with A1 sauce or you prefer ketchup?

Extra serving of crow to the man who knows the least about Ferrari on this whole forum, Parkerfe, who said...

If by "several years" you meant two weeks, then you were right, Frankie!

    and who can forget...

So Frank, I guess Alonso is not really the 2nd place runner today, but rather the premier loser of the day?

Thanks to all our contestants for playing. Kudos and respetc to SennaWX, Senna21, Kizdan, PhilNotHill, TifosiRon, and many others for their levelheaded thoughts towards Kimi - who, while he WAS underperforming this year, realized that calling him a cancer on the team, or suggesting he immediately quit or be fired were premature and not thought through.

I'm going to do a few errands and pick up some Sushi (yumm!) so I expect plenty of flames directed my way when I get back.

Glad I wasn't on that list, but I have a feeling Kimi is going to just get stronger as the season progress's Mike.

No flames here! People forget that the great MS also had runs of lackluster performances. Knowing now about Ferrari's windtunnel disaster it is easy to understand why they did poorly for a few races.

its just a blip. He does this. Ferrari probably has a sponsor with him 24-7 to make sure he stays away from the bottle. Face it Ferrari has a good car now. Massa would have won today if his car didnt stall. We will see in a few more races where he is.

It was great to see Kimi back on form and beating Alonso (reigning WDC) and LH (current WDC points leader) at the British GP to boot. :D

Sorry Massa had to start at the back...tough break for Ferrari and Phil. Stuff like this and the DQ is tough with such a close race going on. Will MCL protest that a mechanic touched the car outside of the pits?

I agree that Kimi is driving well, but I think the most awe inspiring driving came from Massa today. He made the English GP fun to watch IMO.

THis is good stuff. The future has a way of turning on you when it flashes by, especially if you think you know what it is.

I love the comment that Massa would have won if he hadn't stalled his car. That is a master of prognistication. Like the guy who said Tiger would have won if he made the putt, or the Yankees would win if they score more runs than their opponents.

The point is Kimi is accomplished as a driver and clearly becoming more accomplished with every race as a strategist.
The interesting thing that no-one is mentioning is how Hamilton was comprehensively beaten by both Kimi and Alonso who both started behind him

well, i've been home very little these past couple of weeks, and seemed to have missed natta on F-chat. Watched the race live this morning (no Fox necessary, thanks) and it's nice to see Kimi lay a beatdown when he had to...and won the race accordingly. Thanks for the rundown, Mike. There are several of us here, we share a similar attitude regarding 'bandwagons' 'lynching' or 'jumping ship'. It says A LOT about someone who swings by their ballz(or Ov's if you're a woman) so easily week to week. it says even more about those having covert biases and claiming not to. I remember all those ridiculous posts about "Kimi The Cancer". I've always maintained that Kimi and the team would need a little time to find a good balance with his car. The car is getting better and better, and Kimi is showing he can drive AND WIN! There have been some ludicrous comments made here on F-chat, and i recall one that said Kimi would not win another race this year, after Melbourne. Err, ok...

Lewis had a bad day (for him) and still finished on the podium. Consistency is what wins championships. No DQs, no starting from the back. SF is gonna have to play their A game to beat him.

    what ??!!

since when does a professional racing driver need half a season to get good balance ?

It seems to be the swift kick in the pants from LdM and some improvements in the Ferrari that have made the difference here.

We all should know that KR is a good driver but his performances left a lot to be desired with his poor race attitude, by that I mean his poor attacking form, or complete lack of attacking form. Massa was trying in the races where the Ferrari wasn't quite up to it to at least have go and try to make a fist of it while KR just sat back and looked like he was waiting for something to happen.

Some good judges I was with at the Melbourne GP with all had the same line of thinking, Massa the first half, Kimi the second half.

When we saw KR win the first race so easily we "thought" it was game over but he crawled into his shell for the next 6-7 races

Glad to have him back, now keep him off the sauce, let's hope it's not too late

...and was Ron wearing Prada ?? :D

You were on the "kudos to" list :)

It's all in fun - but those that supported Kimi sure took a beating all along, so now that he appears to have come to grips with the car, its onwards and upwards from here (I hope).

Nothing wrong with being down on Kimi up until 2 races ago, I just thought the "fire him NOW, he sucks! He's a cancer, he will never win a race again, he should go to Toyota/Renault/RedBull" posts were way out of the bounds of sanity.

Steve you were this close '' to making 'the list' :) But you had some positive posts too and if I had put you up there, I would have had to edit the posts to make you sound more negative than you were :)

Congratulations to your countryman on a well driven race today, and for being in the WDC lead in his rookie year, no less.

Kimi doesn't build or design the F$@%#^ Car! I suppose when Shumi had his spell of bad runs it was his fault right? You do remember some of ths crappy runs he's had yes? What was his excuse? Did you lynch him for his 'lack of motivation'??? Sometimes it takes a bit longer/more work(between all) than you anticipate to find the sweet spot--something Kimi and SF anticipated coming into the season, only fans don't really care to hear that sort of thing. Development is not always linear or constant in a positive direction. Of course you should already know that but you still make such a comment. You guys are so ridiculously selective in your way of bashing it's becoming comical. And your(and many others here) take on his 'attitude', his 'heart', is more yap that says more about your perceptions and expectations rather than what is really going on within the human being you are bashing. I am a paid athlete, and i hear that bs all the time--towards myself and other fellow athletes. how dare anyone assume to know for a fact what i or any other competitor is feeling... the folks on F-chat know it all i suppose...

Yes it was. I will admit to being overly negative on Massa earlier this year. I do not think he is the next MS, nor do I think he has Kimi's level of talent (just an IMO thing) but he certainly has raised his game a whooooole lot this year.

I will add however (and this is nothing against Felipe) that if it was Kimi who was black flagged coming outta the pits in Canada and/or stalling on the grid today, some of the folks above would be calling for his head on a spike!

per Kimi, you are right...if it were up to F-chatter's Kimi would've been fired already! Of course, some F-chatter's here are experts on the 'drive' 'motivation' 'attitudes' within competitors. They seem to have an acute sense of what another human being is feeling/thinking, and deem it as fact. Comical at best.

I've always been a Kimi fan. i think Massa is better at working with subpar equipment but Kimi is the fastest driver out there when the car is working how he wants it to work. Nuff said.

I've been waiting for this post Mike. I was actually getting a little riled up over some of the asinine posts made in the last few weeks.

In the words of Tony Shaw from the May edition of F1 Racing magazine:

"Kimi's a pretty straightforward bloke -- he gets in the car and drives the ****ing wheels off it, and that's what racing drivers are supposed to do."

Per the magazine/article, Tony Shaw was Kimi's race engineer in Formula Renault, so he may know what he's talking about. Just maybe.

And lastly, my favorite picture of Kimi to date (quickly followed by my second favorite picture of him):

Massa did a better job than KR up to the last WEEK ... FACT!!

stop taking the high road because he's won 2 races in a week, he can just as easily lose that confidence he has found

I have always believed, and yet to see anything to prove it wrong, that at the elite level of ANY sport that attitude is the difference between winning and losing (well, maybe taking drugs in the TdF has helped a few)

You see football teams that get used to losing and even in a winning position they seem to find a way to lose and vice versa for winning teams, even when in a bad situation they can still manage to find a way to win because their attitude is that of a winner.

Kimi lost that confidence, otherwise how do you explain Massa doing so much better in Qual and the race than the higher talented KR ?

I try to stay away from being either a Massa or Kimi "basher' because of the points made in the first post in the thread. I did questions Kimi's abilities and motivation throughout the first half of the season and don't feel bad about doing it. I don't recall once calling for his resignation this very minute or saying he will bring the whole team crashing down.
