Why is it that F1's classic circuits that hold the most history (and often the best racing) constantly come under threats and criticism by BernieCo, yet the Hungaroring seems to go on and on being it's dull, lackluster self 20-odd years later? Monaco excluded, this track is the benchmark for layouts that produce parade-style "racing", and while I hear it's a fun travel destination, the region doesn't really rate highly on the manufacturers' "must go" radars. What gives?

Topic close to my heart, I feel F1 is being ruined by Bernie and co, why they insist on building these characterless boring cricuits to replace those that have tremendous history I really dont know, now it looks like Silverstone is going to get the chop because there is more money elsewhere, this is total greed in my opinion.

They got rid of the temporary brothels around the track a few years ago, so perhaps that statement is not quite as true as before.

But you are right. Hungary is a boring track and I would rather see that get axed than Magny Cours, the British GP or either of the Italian dates. Even if the organizers pay the fee, that does not change the fact that it is a boring race to watch. Speed TV should just as well broadcast a race from my Scalextric track.

Me too! Airfare, hotel and race tickets are booked!

My wife and I (am my 80+ years ago, Hungarian-speaking Mother-In-Law) will be traveling to Budapest to attend the race, and sight see as well.

From what I've read and heard, Hungaroring is one of the best F-1 venues to watch the race. The track is essentially in a bowl with grandstands along the perimeter.

I've been to several Long Beach GPs and they too can be a parade. Parade or not, we're going to have a blast!

Nothing complex. Bernie/Max are draining F1 dry.

In addition, I believe they're also a GP that does not care about Tobacco sponsorship. I believe the event's title sponsor is still Marlboro.

Same here. Got covered grand stand tickets.

Jack, you're giving the answer yourself: Hungaroring with 20 years of existence has now become a classic F1 track. Just take a look at the calendar and see what other tracks are there, that match that kind of history?

Monaco, Montreal, Britain, Italy, Belgium and Brazil are older. Everything else is younger.

Bernie is not ignoring history and tradition. He is just giving Silverstone a hard time because the track is below par for today's F1 standards. He actually tried to buy the track away from BRDC so he can beef it up, but they discovered him and blocked the sale.

You can blame Bernie for a lot of things, but Silverstone's problems are caused by the BRDC/Stewart, not Bernie.

I am no Bernie apologist, but him "killing" F1 is, IMCO, also wrong [Flame suit on!] - He, basically singlehandedly, took it from something that was followed by a few gear-heads to the largest TV sport on the planet involving some of the biggest mfgrs. And he and Max have successfully kept these monster companies and their egos in check and the sport growing in popularity.

F1 is not dying, it's evolving. Sure, I'm as pi$$ed as anyone that Silverstone, France (I won't say Magny Cours as Paul Ricard was a much better circuit imo), Suzuka etc may no longer host GP's, but then I was upset when they left Brands Hatch, others were upset when it left Goodwood and so on.

    As usual, just my 02c,
    Cheers,
    Ian
