    Dear American and English Comrades,

Few F-40's cover a great smileage and accordingly the tyres could easily become quite ancient and yet still possess a huge degree of tread. My question is: Regardless of wear, when should tyres by changed? Is it for example, every five years regardless of wear, or ten years? Or will they last indefinitely? Does anyone possess any technical data, please? Thank you.

    With kind regards,

Here's something to Ponder. If you want to do a high speed run they won't let you if your tires are over 2 years old. IMHO on a very high performance vehicle that's driven hard I'd change tires every 2 years. If you take your car to track days and drive hard every year. If you're a cruiser every 4 years is what I'd recommend.

    ( I'm assuming 6-10K miles per year) (6 Hard 4 regular)

I bought my 1990 F40 with 300 miles in 2000. The original factory tires were Goodyear Eagles that looked great but were 10 years old. You won't necessarily see problems with normal use but kick in the turbos and you'll lose the rear end. Not a pretty experience. After 5 years the tires get 'hard'. Look for cracks, not in the side walls, but between the treads. My latest and the last available fronts and rears for the F40 are Michelin Pilot Sports. I think they have it right. The warranty is the earlier of 5 years or 12,000 miles. This is a great traction tire and handles well on track or country road. The Pzero is a great tire but only sells the rears but has the same 5 year 'hard' problem.
Slicks for the track is not a great idea unless you own a dealership. The suspension and brakes do not have the strength to keep up with the engine. I love the F40 but use my restored LeMans 348LM for the track.
