The nerve some people have. Backstory: I park my car inside my driveway everyday, which is gated. Never once has anything happened to my car while it is sitting still in its spot, and today should have been no different. However, I awoke to find the paint on the front emblem of my car had been chipped/scraped/picked off. Now I'm pretty sure that the paint didn't just fall off in the rain, it is a BMW after all, quality is expected. I believe someone did this on purpose. Thankfully a new emblem is only $20, but wtf What would drive someone to do that? Who ****s with someone else's car? Honestly sorry for the rant, but I had to do it somewhere. Pic of the damage is attached. Anyone else ever had anything like this happen to their car? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bro, I don't know if it was vandalism. My sisters' X5 came back like that after we sent it in for service. Tell your dealer to replace it, mine did as a good gesture.
It isn't very clear in the pic, but the piece of carbon fiber is bent on the edge as if someone was peeling it and bent the peeled part in half, which is why i'm thinking someone did this with their nail or key. Then again I could just be paranoid.
Hey ya know whats funny? I have almost the same car, and I have the SAME problem - almost exactly. And I thought it may be vandalism too, but it was just too perfectly done - it had to be a paint adhesion issue - had to be.
So three BMW's so far. I'm in Houston, weather is hot always. The car is always in the sun. It used to be taken care of using Zaino unless the dealer washes it. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a random of the randomest issues. a) Houston sun b) Never garaged c) Dealer car washed recently I think all of those combine to require my sisters emblems replaced, what's yalls story ?
well i'm glad to hear i'm not the only one. And no, I hand wash my car. Just gave her a nice wash today actually, she looks great, minus the effing emblem problem.
That happened to my dad's 740iL. He never washes the car and drives it a lot (140k+ miles now) and in the snow with salt, etc. It came off partially one day like that.
my mom has had bimmers now for the past 12 years and never has had that problem, and her cars get driven in every type of weather imaginable, but I guess she's just lucky haha
Not vandalism. Exact same thing happened to my 530. Dealer said it was a pretty common thing. Not sure why though. I was pretty pi$$ed at first though, too!! Dave
Dude, F-that, my Dads Ferrari got vandalized in our driveway during mid-day. Feal sorry for your Bimmer. The comment to drive slower reminds me of this. Been doing any filming lately? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2700057303541734757&q=%22BMW+commercial%22&total=149&start=10&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=7 -Matt
Yep, happened to my alfa too.....round, pretty , classic alfa colorful emblem, slowly chipping/falling apart. Its a 87 yr spider. Heard it's common.
Joey, Is that an aftermarket badge? The reason i ask is i have never seen an imitation carbon fiber quadrant therefore I would highly guess this is not vandalism, just poor quality. Even on real BMW badges, i have seen the white and blue etc come off on many of my family members cars. Surely if it was vandalism, they would just have tried to steal the badge and there doent look like there is any evidence of that. Conclusion: You can rest at peace at night Regards, Matthew
I've seen that on my Mother's BMW, and have replaced badges on two friends BMW's for the same thing. Your car wasn't vandalized. That just seems to happen on its own??? I wouldn't worry about it.
Inlaid procelain 3/16" thick on my cycle. My cars have the originals. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dude, they're like 25 bucks to replace. You should be HAPPY that they didn't use a screw driver to take it off and wreck your hood. Nothing like paying $1,000 because someone wanted an old plastic logo. Move on. P.S. No one steals the finish from a detail piece, I don't think it was a human that was responsible.
Did you read the rest of the thread at all? lol. Had you read, you would have seen that I in fact got over it after I found out its a pretty common occurence. In fact, I even said "thank god they are only like $20 dollars to replace" in my first post. -Joey
