Bargains? Big Money? You never know until it's too late. It takes big balls to consign a car at "No Reserve".
has there been any clarification (with measurements) about the lowbody/highbody situation yet ? personally im unconvinced (especially in light of joes comments about all chassis being the same from start of production to finish) that the highbody cars have any differences to the shell at all. a good point was made on another forum about this.
whilst im playing devils adovcate i also had a thought about the lp400s series 1,2,3 (and possibly 4) saga. why do some ppl refer to the bravo wheeled cars as series 1 and all others as series 2. a set of wheels and dials is the only change between these cars and other low body cars (and the larger dials were on some of the bravo wheled cars anyways) if you wanted to be picky there would be 3 or possibly even 4 series of lp400s i. bravo wheels and small dials, lowbody ii. bravo wheels and larger dials, lowbody (i think thats right) iii. later style wheels, large dials, lowbody iv. later style wheels, large dials, change to 40mm carbs, raised suspension i and ii get lumped together as the series 1 and depending who you talk to iii and iv are either all series 2, or iii = series 2 and iv = series 3. who decided though that only the initial 50 cars with the bravo wheels would be the series 1 cars and no later cars were included ? iirc Joe said that dallara and wolf have stated that only the 1st 50 cars were series 1, but as they were no longer involved with lamborghini by the time the later cars (iii onwards in my list) were being built are they in a position to make this statement ? If factory personell continued to construct cars using the parameters already set (bar running out of bravo wheels) then are these cars a new series or a continuation of the old one
I think its open to interpretation. The only thing I can confirm for sure are the individual build dates of each 4 litre Countach from the factory's own records. Joe www.joesackey.com
Ditto! Oh and umm....I know this is not the proper thread to say the f-word but....you have a Dino too? Please do tell.... don't have a dino, but would love to! I hail from the dark side (Lamborghini and I must say I am a proud bull worshipper!), so I probably should have used my red86dd handle, but I was over here in F-land and it was my way of entering safely....dino's didn't say 'F' anywhere!!! I love Dino's - the blue one being restored (206-246 thread) is making me drool heavily..I also love the early vintage racing Ferrari roadsters - there I said it - Ferrari!! just goofin' - love all these Italian thoroughbreds - viva Italia!!! now let's see more amazing CT photos!!! Joe, Any information from your records of the build date for my car. Do the records show who the cars were built/ordered for? Any other information? Thanks Brian
Remind me of your chassis number via e-mail and I will check this weekend. Yes the records always indicate the concessionaire/dealer, or the client if he ordered it direct from the factory. Original colors, chassis number, engine number and date of completion. Joe www.joesackey.com
It takes intestinal fortitude to put cars up unreserved. I think both cars are great examples of DD's and should draw motivated bidders because they know the cars are going to a new home. Good luck and I hope you do well.
There are measured differences, in the inside of the body "shell/cockpit." Measurements were taken of the inside dimensions, of both a 79 S1 (lowbody) and a 85 DD QV. The 85, has more room inside the cockpit ! I think the most important point, is to decide which car you want. Unfortunately for L, they did not have the luxury at the time, to officially designate the differences between the cars. How can L take the time, to officially point out the differences between the cars, when at the same time, they printed the official LP 400S owner's manual, with a mechanical drawing of a downdraught Weber carb ! Were any downdraught Weber carbs, installed by the factory on Countach autos b4 1985 ? With that being the case, it is up to the enthusiasts themselves, to categorize the different cars.
i wasnt disupting that theres more room inside - thats easily covered by the lowering of the floorpan and seats that joe was told about im merely asking if the actual shell and roof has been proven to be different on the later cars
coward it was your comments about the builder saying the chassis was not having been changed and that you were told all that happened was the floorpan was put in lower that caused me to ask lol
I am very excited to see what they bring as well and is one reason that I will probably go to the auction. Can't wait!
Marchesi said the chassis was not changed. I suspect the floorpan was. I have no proof either way. I havent really investigated that one yet. I will in the near future. Joe www.joesackey.com
Tony and John both did the measurements. Tony with the S1, and John with the 85 DD. There findings were posted on L/P. Some pics were also posted of the measurements. As far as L/P, that information was lost during the crash. Tony and John will no doubt remember the measurements, that they both took of the inside of the cabins.
As I understood it, the body was raised on the chassis just a tiny but - the difference showing up in the rocker panels and door heights. Years ago, a buddy of mine and I measured his LP400 against my DD QV, and the difference showed up from the top of the door to the bottom (where the bottom edge rests against teh door sill) and it was an inch and half or so IIRC. Rocker panel I thought had a bit more sheet metal I thought as well. -SL
