Very nice replica that uses many original Maserati parts, even though nothing comes from an actual "151".

Its real worth depends on the originality and correctness of the engine/gearbox specifications, and on the origins of the chassis.

IMO the risk buying this car is that it will always be considered a "replica" (albeit a good one) and will therefore be very difficult to sell on, unless the owner of an original 151 wants to use the replica on the track to spare his real baby.

Well you can't be too harsh, the Tipo 151 hardly exists at all (what did they make, 3 cars in total, heavily modified for each racing season and comprehensively crashed & butchered?) so it would be difficult for any replica to be even vaguely related to the real thing, the parts simply do not exist!

.....so few, so crashed and butchered, that by the mid '70's one of the 3 found its way to a shop northern California; had the V8 replaced with a Ford 427 SOHC motor, the front & rear "customized", painted candy apple red, and went on the custom car show circuit for a few years til someone recognized it and it disappeared into various collections.
    No idea what chassis #......
In 1972 it was offered to me for $2500 with the motor; unfortunately a poor student chose to eat instead......fool!

...not correct! The original engine that was in "Lucky" Castners car survived the fatal accident. Its still existing and correctly Factory-stamped as a Le Mans-unit! Everything else was scrapped!

Peter Kaus was permitted to build a complete replica of the Castner-car using the original Factory monocino but with a 5000 GT-engine installed. This replica came about 90% close to the real thing and is now correctly restored to visually 100% in England - but still with the 5000 GT-engine! I supplied some of the very rare interior-photos of the car, coming from my archive.

    Ciao!
