    Yasir,

driving hard, as in experiencing the limits of the car as much as street driving permits. how much mileage on my cgt ? 3500 miles this past year, not much, but my lieage is spread over a few cars and i work for a living and keep very busy (especially during the summer months when pseudo race car drivers like yourself get into trouble and need fixing). By driving hard, I mean driving with an edge, and pushing the car...lots of twisty back roads and empty parkways here to have some fun (not to mention some state trooper friends who enjoy going fast as well)

I have a few cars Yasir...they all get driven as much as time permits...I'm just sorry I don't have as much free time as ballers like you.

Track time ? No local track here, but I have driven on a track, and seen my fair share of suited up posers who take themselves too seriously, and can't drive worth a crap.

Have you driven a CGT ? Do you know what its driving dynamics are like / does it like to putter along, or does it like to be driven hard ? how about a CS ? have you driven an f40 ?

Spare me the lecture sonny...the CGT requires more effort and driver input than an F430 paddle shifter and you don't need a track to figure that out, just ask anyone thats driven both.

I'm not sure what gives you the idea that your question is worthy of an answer. Everything that you asked is subject to personal perspective. What constitutes hard driving for you maybe a walk in the park for someone else. Unless you have the proven pedigree in the field you are asking about, your question is basically meaningless, especially in the implied tone you used. Your time would be better served driving your own, whatever it is you drive, than asking others about their driving habits.

Now... now KIDS, Settle down! RufMD, Who put the wild hair up your ass? I've never heard you crack on somebody like you just did on yasir and I think me too!

Whether the CGT is a better car is not my reason why I should have or should not have sold the car. I had my dream just like you did.... I bought the CGT and kept her 2 years. (shifting gears, using the clutch, egress etc.) I apparently like cars that are a little more driveable everyday and the CGT is not.... no matter what your rationale is. It's not as comfortable as the F430, not as easy to drive around town (visibility, ground clearance and occupant room).

I'm not a poseur by any means. I want a car I can spend a lot of time in and unfortunately, the CGT and SLR didn't do it for me.

What's surprises me most of all Doc, is your 'driving hard' statement. Being a Doctor, I would think you have seen your share of car accident injuries no matter what kind of Doctor you are. I would also think you would certainly promote track driving over any kind of street 'hard' driving for your own safety as well as other people sharing the highway with you!

You're talking like a 20 year old when you say... "the CGT is not for everyone....it is an enthusiast's dream and a drivers car. It is truly appreciated by those who like to drive them hard"

You mean to tell me that anybody who buys an Enzo, CGT, SLR or 599, that unless they drive their car hard, they have no right to own that car???

I won't argue with you that the CGT is probably a better car design wise, mechanically and structurally. But I think the F430 interior is of finer quality, controls are more user friendly and the audio system is certainly better.

As far as the 599, just because I cringe at possibly having to pay over sticker for the car doesn't mean I won't buy one. In fact, I'm working on 4 or 5 cars that a 'finder' has uncovered for me. If I do buy one from his tip, he gets the $2000 finder fee I promised him if I can work out a deal on one of the ones he found for me. Heck.... I had to pay over sticker for all 3 F430s I have now and even the GT3RS. If I wouldn't have, I would not be the owner of any of them!

I hope we're still friends.... but I'm just kinda surprised of your personal attacks!

And believe it or not, I'm very happy for you and every other CGT owner that the CGT prices are finally going up where they should have been for such a fabulous, low production 'Supercar'! Magwheel

I think Ruf was perfectly in line saying what he said he felt about a CGT. It was the follow up from Yasir that ignited the fire.
I love Ferraris in general. The 430 not so much, but that statement is entirely relative to my own experiences. I certainly wouldn't equate a CGT with a 430 straight up, but relative to your own needs the 430 could certainly be the better choice, especially if it was a daily or frequent use car. The CGT is hard work in urban driving conditions. I still love it and I am quite happy to trundle around town in it, waiting for gaps in the traffic to get a short burts of acceleration here and there.
Having said all that, the 599 does it all better and is probably worth the money for it's all round abilities. But given what the 599 fetches these days, a CGT is a bargain! So many cars....so little time :)

You certainly can say that again. One dealer that I was talking to about the 599 said (I think) he bought one for $395 (in that area) and he felt he was going to get somewhere in the neighborhood of $440K or $445K from some client. I guess that's a good indication that CGT prices are definitely going upwards!

He also told me that Jerry Seinfeld is very possibly interested in the 559 he has and that Jerry has 3 CGTs. One in L.A., one in New York and one somewhere else (can't remember where)! Mags

That's fine, I can appreciate that, to each their own. I was only respectfully curious about his thought process. You shouldn't make assumptions about how much money people have though, even though I think that is irrelevant. :)

First of all magwheel, I've known you for a long time, and from other boards, certainly nothing personal intended, and the poseur comment was not directed at you specifically (that is a leap some crap stirrers chose to make)

its a general known fact that a lot of people who bought the cgt returned it initially because it was not easy to drive, raw and not for trundling around town cruising. that was my point. The assumption made was that i felt magwheel did the same and is a poseur, which is not the case. i know you to be a real enthusiast that loves cars (and like myself, probably don't track much).

No hard feelings mag, don't let some crap stirrers rile you up !

A good indication that the "real" price of 599's is weakening.

You said elsewhere that you were looking at 4 or 5 599's. As a serious buyer, what sort of prices are you seeing?

It is the coin pattern 12x12 tiles from www.floorjunkies.com . About 1600 feet of tile, total cost was around $2800 IIRC. It took me longer to figure out the pattern than it did to install the tiles. Thanks for the compliment!

His statement refers to CGT's and their prices rising, not 599's.

I don't think that there is a 599 available anywhere at retail under $500k.
I played golf with one of the LA area Ferrari dealer principals last week and he said that he bought a "well used" 599 for $465k and got $500 for it. He believes the retail price of 599's is around $525k and his biggest problem is finding any to trade.

You weren't kidding when you said you didn't drive these cars. The SLR has just over 400 miles on it and the 04 CGT just over 1500. Enjoy the 430s in good health!

Yes..... As a serious buyer!!! The ones I've been turned on to by my 'internet friend', all seem around $175,000 over MSRP! Unbelieveable!

But then again, when I bought my 2005 F430 in June of 05, the MSRP was $187K and change and I had to pay $260K for her. I absolutely have no regrets. I love her! Plus..... most 2005 F430s are going on eBay for around $220-230K. Makes me feel a lot more secure buying them than anything esle right now. But think about it..... when was the last time any of us bought a car of any kind expecting it to appreciate over the years? See what I mean? I would think buyers of the first Enzos had no idea that their car's future value would go from $650-675K to $1.2-1.4 Million!!! How about the poor Saps that sold their cars early. Hell...... I may be in the same category someday if the CGT prices go bonkers upward!

If I do get lucky enough to get a 599, I just hope that its future value holds up within reason and doesn't go down like the 550-575 Maranellos did.

    DAMN I LOVE FERRARI!!! Mags

I think RUFMD has some good points. I don't have a CGT or a 430 but do have my 430 coming this fall and have driven the car a few times. I have not driven the CGT yet but have read enough reviews and spoken to enough owners to understand what the car is all about. It is not a comparable car to a 430, 2 completely different machines. I think a 430 can be enjoyed by both a car lover and somebody that does not really have the passion but just wants to be seen in a Ferrari. Whereas the CGT needs the skill and attention of a real car lover to really enjoy and keep the car. It seemed clear 6 months ago when CGT cars were getting close to 300k that a bottom in prices was in sight. However now w/ prices back closer to 400k for low mile examples and everybody is assuming that they keep climbing just let they assumed they would keep falling last yr. Will be interesting to see what happens. My own gut is that they dip slightly again before gradually going higher over the next few yrs. Maybe it's just wishful thinking since I am itching to buy one.
