So I decided I needed to get the oil changed as it's been 8 months since purchase. Already had purchased the needed oil filter(UFI) and copper washer plus 12 qts of Castrol GTX 20w/50.

No issues with jacking up the car, drain plug removal or filter removal, went very well and quickly.

Went to replace the copper washer with the one I purchased that was supposed to be for to car and realized, not for this car! Went to replace the filter which shows as being the proper UFI replacement and more problems. The filter rubs on the oil line housing just posterior to the filter housing and won't go to place! WTF? I've heard some concerns about UFI on this board but seeing the number in use I didn't think it was an issue. This filter is unusable on a 1989 328 and I assume all other 328's if not many/all 308's. How is this possible? Seems the outer diameter is greater than what will fit, the lip sticks out too far. I have not seen this mentioned on this site and have seen plenty of pictures of 3x8's/Mondials with UFI's present so what is the problem? I had two UFI's and the second one was the same.

My main reason for this post is to warn 328 if not all 3x8 owners of the problems, don't go UFI, at least with 328's. I don't know if it's an isolated issue or not but be aware.

I resolved the issue by actually finding a Mobil 1 filter at a local parts supply store. Seemed exactly like the Baldwin in size and seal diameter. The seal seemed a bit harder rubber than the Baldwin and UFI and it might be seeping just slightly. Has anyone used this filter? I'm ordering a Balwin tommorow and will swap it out, just curious if it's been used at all. I had to do something to get it into the garage. I reused with copper washer after some flat sanding to make sure it was flat again and no leaks detected.

Good German brand. OE for Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, etc...Have used them for years on my Ferraris with nary a problem. The best part is that they're $12/each versus $40 for the UFI.

UFI's I have were about $12, not $40. Mann's are great, I concur. Always used them on my BMW's and Porsche's. Didn't know they did Ferrari filters. Interesting alternative but I'll probably go Baldwin in the future.
