What a ripoff!!! $30,000+ (at the moment... reserve still not met) for 1 engine block? No headers, no pistons, no rods, no valvetrain, gearbox, nothing. I'm curious how much let's say... a 2005 motor costs. One with no "history". Prost didn't drive it. Maybe MS did, but he lost the championship, plus it wasn't his LAST year so it is basically "nothing special". I'm talking full engine. By the way of that auction, the engine alone would be "worth" millions. Is that really true? IIRC talking to the Ferrari PR chap at LA Autoshow on Press Day he said a customer bought Barichello's F2002 for around $1mil (IIRC... maybe a little more?) but that comes with full servicing and a "team" of engineers on a race day. Ferrari keeps possession of the car and transports it around (both for themselves and the client). Car has been fit for the client, and the engine is slightly de-tuned. Is this part of Corsa Cliente? I would assume so, right? Anyways, he was saying something like it would be nearly impossible to operate without the engineers to help you, but the cost of the car alone you take it home and put it in your living room or whatever would be less money, but not really worth it. So that's why I ask... this is just for an Engine BLOCK you can't do anything with. EDIT: as I was typing that, you guys basically answered my question regarding the auction. Ok, so I'm not crazy in thinking that's a fxcking rip off!
you can get a fully functioning, with complete electronics, and even support for a genuine 3 litre Cosworth V-10, 800 hp, for around 50K and up... F1-Sales sometimes has nice engines as well as genuine F1 cars...they had a wicked looking 1997 Tyrrell for sale a while back, and Shumi's 1994 Benetton may still be there...that ebay auction is silly...
Best deal on a track car. Its like my desire to own a 360 N-GT. Less money than a reg. 360 coupe and it has 40 (ish) more hp, full cage, slicks, spares, better aero and suspension and a shxtload faster.... Plus, with some "creativity" it can be registered on the street. Of course it wouldn't be an honest thing to do, but hey... Anyways, bottom line, $30k for an engine block is ridiculous. If someone wants to pay for that, I have some nice property on Antarctica I'd like to sell them.
