F430 TRACK TYRE ADVICE REQUIRED

    Hoping someone can speak from experience as to this question, I was aware Ferrari advise against the use of slick tyres on a 430 because of E-diff & ABS issues and warranty, has anyone used sticky tires on their 430 for track club use.

    I have just bought a set of Hoosiers and been advised by my dealer about problems with Slicks, the R6 Hoosiers are not slicks but they are a DOT tyre, albeit very sticky.

    I would appreciate any experience other 430 owners have had on this question.

    I don't have a ferrari but if you need a track tire that's not a slick but has plenty of traction check out yokohama advan A028 or A032R. Nitto also makes some good sticky tires that are closer to street spec (though both the tires I've mentioned are DOT legal, I believe)

    What's your experience on track? If you haven't been doing it for a long time, you're unlikely to even be capable of bringing slicks up to temp!

    In any case, slicks are a bad on Ferraris and even the track ready Porsche's. The suspension members don't support the loads, and the electrical systems don't either.

    Try Michelin pilot sport cups or Toyo RA-1's. Both are great r-comps that will be pretty quick.

    Ferrari use the Bridgestone RE050A tires for the driving school at Fiorano. I think they would know best. The F430 Challenge cars are on slicks at the school but the Challenge cars do not use the E-dif.

    How can you not track your ferrari is beyond me. This is what these cars are made for. Not able to use R compound tires would be the most important reason to not buy a 430. I would recheck this info. 430C's runslicks but i do not know how the electornics is set up. I thouht the only issue with tires was that the computer looked for the same front to rear factory spec for overall diameter and people where having problems with aftermarket wheels and tires. On the surface I can't see why you can't use any tire so long as you stay to stock sizes.

    2nd, ABS only needs the overall diameter to be the same.

    There's a very simple size calculator, you can mess around with tire and wheel sizes to make a perfect match to your stock combination (if changing wheel size). If just changing tires, get the same width and profile and that's all.

    Thanks for all your comments, I have used numerous R compound tyres on previous cars and always found Hoosier a better choice IMO, Hoosier R6's are not slicks as mentioned in my first post they are are DOT approved tyre, my concern after purchasing the tyres was I was told slicks were an issue with the E-diff, I was a little concerned about the Hoosiers as Ferrari here in Aussie recommend Corsa's.

    I chose the Hoosiers over Corsa's & Pilot Sport Cups which I have used previously as the Hoosiers come up to temp much faster than the others and when you are competing in timed lap dashes where a warm up lap, followed by 2 flying laps is all you get, the others don't really reach their best performance until the 2nd lap whereas the Hoosiers are up within the first lap.

    All this said I ran the car today at Eastern Creek Raceway with no problems what so ever, the car was awesome & the tyres sensational as I had expected. They really allow you to feel the limits of adhesion so much earlier and hence push towards those limits with infinitely more confidence.

    I had new wheels made 8.5" front with 235/35 x 19 and 11" rears with 295/30 x 19. I didn't have time before this meet, as I only just got the car, to put the new lower progressive rate springs in or dial in some negative camber.

    Will do that for next time, as I got faster & pushed a little harder there was still some understeer and I really need to do something with the pads, couldn't believe how quickly the standard steel rotors & pads started to fade.

    I ordered Neez mag wheels 11 x 19 and 8.5 x19 with Michelin Cup tires.

    Nice one, sounds like we both got the sizes right, just a personal preference on the tyres. Hope they work well for you, if you want something stickier again than the Cups try the Hoosiers they are sensational on the 430.
