Still waiting for lift to party, so here we go. I was driving the young fella around and I felt the wheel/car shake 30 seconds before I stopped. I thought it was a flat tyre at 1st. The wheel bolts were tight and perfect before this happened, when I put it all back together a month ago. I checked the wheel bolts once since that time and they were all tight. Torqued to 90lbs all round. The 2 bolts that stayed bolted up in the pic are bent, the 2 that came loose and are sitting there are ok. The only stripped one was that one I took the pic of. Sucks dogs balls! I removed one wheel bolt from RHR to use in the LHR to get car home. Lucky my bro only lives 5 mins away and came to the rescue with jack, wheel socket ect.... I need to get some new wheel bolts now. I will now check these ****s before EVERY drive from now on!! I told the young fella that lucky we were not speeding, because it would have been very NASTY!! 348 on the scraping on the ground all over the road. Would have probably had an accident ect...killed someone......you never know!!!
Hahahaha!! MAN!! I may really have to look into that wont I! I will borrow another torque wrench tomorrow and check the others out. I still think my torque wrench is fine, but we will see. 90lbs all round.
Pap, get rid of those spacers! I've seen this bolt-loosening happen before where spacers are used. There's a reason why they're illegal!
while we're on about wheel bolts, I've "just" noticed (detail is not one of my strong points) that the rear wheel bolts are shorter than the front bolts, is this normal ??
the bolts on my spacers go through the spacer and into the hub from the rim , not 2 different sets of bolts .
They actually reckon that the 2 bolt set wheel spacers are 'better' than the spacers that use longer wheel bolts. The 2 bolt spacer set, takes the load off the wheel bolts, which makes them better apparently. Longer wheel bolts, not so good........or so they reckon anyways. I have mates here with them on their Jap cars and they have not had any issues with them so far. Whatever I guess, something turned to sh*t here with this LHR wheel. I also dont know if I will have car back on the road when you get here scuddy. Maybe we cant take 348 for a drive after all. Getting new wheels bolts fed-ex express post from Ricambi right about now.
I went and purchased a new 1/2" Kingchrome torque wrench today. (Calibration sheet provided. ) I re-checked the other wheel bolts. They were all tight and 'clicked' at 90 ft lbs. So there was NO ISSUE with my Snap On torque wrench. I checked the wheel inserts on both rear wheels and they seem fine. No cracks and they look very normal to me. I removed rear wheel spacers & bolts as they will be sent back to Hill Engineering for a thorough testing & inspection so we can pin point what the bloody hell happened here. pap ill fly may flag at half mast a sign of respect until your baby gets back on the road ..............
you missed the blue stand obviously, the wheel is normally thrown under in these circumstances in case the stand fails
There are 2 blue chassis stands under the scuddy. I am not THAT silly.........actually, maybe I am. Thankyou JM. Exactly correct. Also in this case, the wheels are under there incase baby GG wants to crawl his little fat ass under there to play.
ouch pap....sorry to see this has happened! will be interested to hear what if anything can be determined as the cause dad fabricated IIRC 25mm (perhaps more) spacers for our landcruiser, which bolt to the hub then carry a 2nd set of studs for the wheel, as per your setup as you can imagine the car cops an absolute pounding and weighs 3 tonnes +, and weve never had an issue with them...so hopefully theres an easy fix for you
Cheers man. No serious damage done. Just need some new spacers and wheel bolts, which I will be getting soon from Ricambi. The spacers are not at fault here me thinks, but I am not a guru, so I will not back the claim. I am leaning towards wheel bolts, but again, will let the experts investigate this. Hill Engineering have told me they have never had any issue with these spacers, but doesnt mean that there will never be a 1st. Lucky the car didnt hit the deck, that would have been a nightmate. Damaged brake rotor/caliper, bent control arms, damage body work ect.....ect. I am very very lucky!! I imagine the abuse your L/C cops, and those wheel spacers. Thats why I do not think there is an issue here with. All good, I will be back on the road soon.
good luck with it captain the reasons behind the illegality of spacers make sense...eradicates the risk of backyard cowboys throwing thick washers on their studs to pack the rims out...but if done correctly there shouldnt be a problem IIRC, the 993 turbo/carrera S actually have factory spacers on the rear to pack the turbo rims out? uncle bob would know
Thats exactly right mate. Done properly, there should not be an issue. But.......I still think they are illegal in QLD, regardless of the 500+ sets of these spacers for my car that have been fitted around the world, without an issue. Except this set, maybe.
