Hi guys, Just finished reading an article in a (Dutch) magazine where they had interviewed Frits Kroymans. Kroymans has an empire of around 180 companies with a $ 2.5 billon turnover. Basis of his empire has always been being the importer of Ferrari in The Netherlands (and possibly abroad as well - he's got nice big Ferrari showrooms scattered throughout Germany as well). He's got a private collection of F-cars in his basement, including two Schumacher F-1 cars, a 250 GTO, a 250 SWB, a 275 with aluminum body, a 250 GT Lusso, to name but these. (see http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=148456&page=3) Anyway, in this article, Kroymans was quoted to be looking at a GT4 in his showroom, saying "This one is going to be a classic soon, and this example being a very nice one, I think we'll take the price tag off and take it off the market". Hmmm, coming from a guy with his background..... Happy with my GT4!!! Hans
Well now, that does sound promising does it not? When people of that caliber of collector start saying things like that, who knows what could happen? And what a great bunch of pic's! Thanks! Cheers!
Maybe it's a clue of what's to come. At some point, we'll see those uber collectors start to skim the top of the 308/328 population. The time to buy is while everyone is dismissing the car's as "too common", etc.
Yep, that happens with every car. The best examples end up locked away in some nice collection. I don't think the collectors have begun grabbing the nicest GT4's. At this point that is being done by the average guy. The important point here is there are VERY FEW nice original GT4's out there. Those cars are already trading in the low 30's. Watch what happens, we'll laugh about those prices sooner than you think.
Heh heh, maybe, just maybe, I could ever see some return on all that $$$$ that I am pouring into this silly hobby of driving a Ferrari (although I cannot envision that 12 mpg @ $8 per gallon is EVER going to be a bargain ) Hans
I remember when everyone thought Dinos were prolitarean and you could pick up 250 and 330 2+2s for change, but now are rocketing. Same for Porsche 356s, and now even 914s for goodness sakes! I think all of the 308s and Mondials will begin to drift upward for several reasons. Modern cars are all about fast, the older ones are more fun. "...for the times, they are a changin'"
Ah, well, at least this Kroymans guy is NOT the type to stuff his cars in his basement, never to let them out. He's personally racing his cars, HARD Hans Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maybe - the cost of ownership will increase as well. Unless one is looking to sell and get out there aren't many advantages to above market valuation, and quite a few disadvantages. Unless one enjoys parading about having such and such above market valuation is not a godsend. Look what happened to Venice, and other touristic locations for example.
Down the road a bit... That was taken at Laguna Seca a couple years ago during Pebble Beach weekend. If memory serves me, the same chap took a 250GTO offroading the same weekend.
Now there is a guy with big ones.... 1st you wreck the above car and wonder how you managed to keep from getting your legs chopped off. What do you do? Stand around and thank God you're alive, unhurt, and groan about your trashed race car? NO of course not... What you do is fire up the GTO and go out and wreck it I admit it...I wouldn't have the balls to do it.
Supposedly, the F1 car that he drove had a crash history (by a certain mr Schumacher). It seems that the repairs that followed had not been quite up to par. The GTO is in pristine condition again, by the way.... phylotic: Yes, I hear you about the downsides of the car getting expensive. It IS however nice, if you ever want to sell, to get back more than you have invested in the car. By the way: if you're looking for a HUGE investment that could be very, very profitable: go to that same Venice (as in Venice, Italy) that you mentioned. Across the water from the Saint Marco square, there is a whole neighbourhood that looks a lot like the Bronx. A total dump, although the buildings are just a nice as on the opposite side. Just not well-maintained. Invest big in there, build hotels, restaurants, and you can own half of Venice. The public transportation boats are crossing the water all the time, so you're like 5 minutes away from the heart of Venice. Big opportunity! I stick to my GT4 for now.... Costs me enough money as it is.... Hans
