Anyone affected by these? Set off at 5pm to go to Gloucester (norm 1.5 hr journey), having got only 2/3 of way by 9pm i abandoned my journey and came back home. Opposite direction was clear, but must be nightmare for residents of Evesham, Chelts and Worcs. Majority of my UK produce and Dairy products come from this area - we received no deliveries at all. Apparently the water levels have risen a further inch this morning. I understand the same jam i was sat in last night still exists and is a 10 mile tailback. Certainly at one point in my journey i had water over the top of my bonnet.
I drove from Newport to Swansea yesterday along the M4, and although it looked pretty tame compared to what I saw on the news last night I was a tad on the nervy side. There were still nobs who insist on driving at silly speeds in these conditions, hence I saw a few in the central reservation. Hope everyone is safe and well
What a ball ache!!! I was thinking about you last night, wondering how you got on, whilst tucking into my Lamb and mushroom Jalfrezi washed down with my tenth pint.....
Good job i turned round when i did - understand people that persevered slept in their cars all night. Just spoke to my Dairy supplier in Tewkesbury - 15 of them have been in the building since 8am yesterday, trapped. Two kids further down the road decided they would attempt to 'raft' on a pallet and had to be air lifted by rescue teams. Fire officers tried to help but were neck deep in water.
always thought you drank like a girl just been looking at hovercrafts on ebay as it could be the next big buisness venture in the transport department with all this weather
Classic Jules moment.... I rung him and said the traffic seemed heavy, had there been an incident reported on the news? He checked his sat nav /pc - you know that really good one from the Eurotour - he reckoned there was nothing reported other than the traffic went down to one lane on part of the M5, and that once i got past the M42 it should all be clear. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6909633.stm

Blimey! glad looked at site as meant to be driving through Kingston centre in about 3 hours so better find new route. Hope wherever you live is not flooded...
sat with a nice glass of sauvignon blanc waiting for Rob, waiting and waiting, then he took the right decision and turned back - good job he did, as he would have probably arrived about 10 minutes ago! On a serious note, a lot of new houses have been built on flood plains, in the Glos area where the River Severn cuts through the town, many new homes are flooded, brooks have broke their banks, and what seemed like tranquil little corners have become mini lakes. Glad I live up on a hill in a house built in 1927 (when housing wasn't in the demand it is today) Seems it'll only get worse.
It took me 6 hours to get from just outside Newbury back home (stourbridge)yesterday. The scariest part was seeing a rush of water come over the road and push a picasso into the kerb about 100 yds in front of me. Came off the A34 as the M40 was at a standstill took the back roads upto stratford to be met by a girl soaked to her waste saying the Avon had burst its banks and took out about 20 cars
I left Solihull at 14-15 on Friday afternoon heading for Banbury, and got stuck in the traffic between junctions 14 -12 on the M40 for 5 hours. Finally got to Banbury at 19-45, too late for handover, so drove by the back lanes to Upper Heyford arrived there at 20-15, changed cars and then left still having to get to Yeovil and Wareham to finish the days work. Arrived to stay overnight at a friends house in Wiltshire at 1-15am having tried four different roads to get there, all flooded!! Arrived back from Wareham at 16-25 this aternoon, all in a days work..!!!! Phil.
Both ends of the road were flooded but we are slightly raised up so okay thanks. To give credit to the fire brigade and police that water was pumped away and that road was open again a couple of hours later. Top effort.
On a lighter note here is one my mate took a couple of minutes later. Reckon there must be a suitable caption to go with the kid playing the trumpet! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have some friends living right in the middle of some of the worst affecetd areas, in a village called Corse Lawn, a few miles from Tewkesbury on the Glouc/Worcestershire border. Anyone know if that village is ok?? Steve
Hit by the rains too, ended up pulling a 24 hour shift. Took one of the lads 3 hours to get from Boddington to Innsworth ! A total of what 4 miles ?
I think we've been really lucky here in Essex. We've hardly had any rain for the last few days. Looking at the weather here, it's hard to imagine what's been happening in other parts of the country.
I had no idea it was so bad, stay safe everyone. Not to be outdone here the north of the north island has had two really bad hits this year. So bad that several towns will probably be 'moved' to safer ground!
I got stuck in a flood once but put the car in 1st gear and wound the starter motor and it pulled itself out without a problem - wonder why the car under the bridge didn't do it?!!
Set of for Malvern @ 10.00am on Friday for a Triumph show that we attend every year, normally takes about 2.5 hrs, finally got there at around 6.00pm We must have been close to being some of the last cars to get off the M5 before it was closed.Although Malvern itself was affected that badly, all the roads out were in someway flooded. Found a route to the M5 northbound via the M50 and Ledbury today, the water on either side of the M50 was unbelievable I really feel for all those affected and hope that they can get back to normality ASAP. My office is at Tewkesbury and I live west of Worcester. 27 miles. Took me 27 hours in total. Went cross country through tight roads and many floods. Had to eventually go back to Tewkesbury and take different routes. After 4.5 hours and probably 150 miles of detours I eventually got to my driveway. Couldn't get up the hal-mile track to our house because of raging torrent where small stream crosses. Went for a meal and tried again later. Still impassable and very scary. Went back to Worcester and stayed with sister-in-law. Saturday morning tried again but now road closed ue to huge landslide. Tried other routes but by now the Teme is in flood and all bridges closed. Back to Worcester. Eventually Saturday evening find alternative route on map, taking me 40 miles north to get across river. 10 minute journey takes hour and a half. Still can't get up my track but this time I'm able to get to other side of village and can leave car and walk across fields. Now we have no water. Office in Tewkesbury is inaccessible (as is Tewkesbury in it's entireity) and no idea whether office is flooded. Time to build an Ark I say... R
