The hose that comes out of the side of the rear head failed, reminding me that I have been putting off replacing the small coolant hoses. I searched for the process for replacing this, I know I've seen threads on it, but didn't come up with anything helpful. I just need the answers I haven't been paying attention to before - does the gas tank have to come out, what length is it, etc.

The hose failed right at the hose clamp/nipple end, so I of course cut off two inches and stuck it back on and I'll be fine for a while, but this was a warning shot. And it was really nice of it to fail right there where it is easy to get to, easy to make a temporary fix and it didn't fail catastrophicly (sp? that's not right!). I was so relieved that it wasn't fuel leaking from the engine bay!

OK, so you guys haven't been a lot of help.
Today on a drive the hose sprung a leak again. Could have been that Perfusion and I running a few redline pulls on the San Jose Gand Prix course was just a bit too much for it. (Sure sounded good to have two Ferrari screams bouncing off the barriers!) The real issue is that the hose is delaminating and the interior looks like the crud Birdman had in his Mondial radiator.

So has anyone replaced these hoses? I've freed both ends of both the heater and the brake booster vacuum line and tried to pull both from the front and from the rear, but they seem attached to something. Does the fuel tank need to come out? Is there some secret access hatch somewhere?

Is the GT4 parts book available on line? Perhaps a drawing there would show how this is routed?

Well, I can't answer the question about a GT4, but on a GTB/GTS you have to drop the left fuel tank so you can get a straight shot, then you pull the old hose out with the new one connected to it, so you pull the new one through using the old one as a "rope." It helps if you lube the new one going in with some liquid soap so it slides in better.

There are some good threads if you search but I don't know if they pertain to the GT4.

    Hi
Parts book is online at http://dino308gt4.com. Allthough I haven't personally replaced those hoses yet, I do know that the LH gas has to come out. also have to drill out rivets in the panel in LH front fender well (at rear of well near the bottom.
While you are doing this replace the brake booster hose as well.

I don't see any rivets that look like the culprits. Are they visible from the outisde of the car or the inside? Looking at the parts book it looks like perhaps there is an access hatch on the side of the rear seat that may help see what is going on in there. Taking the fuel tank out isn't the answer I was hoping for! I just filled the car. I made stops for both ends of the heater hoses to run the car sans heater. I'll drive it a bit and get the fuel level down.
Yes, I already bought the hose also. The good vacuuum hose in that size was $5 a fooot! I bought 18 feet - probably too long, but easier and cheaper to cut two feet off that buy another long length. I'll probably tackle this project next weekend after draining off a bit of fuel.

    Thanks!

    Hi
the access panel to remove in the LH front wheel well (riveted although usually covered with lots of undercoating!) is #40 on Tavalo 102. Although you might not have to remove the gas tank from the car, it needs to at least shift it to the right so that you can get at some clamps there as well as get a straighter run to feed the hoses through. (So I am told)

I didn't even see #40 as an acess panel. Thanks!
Has anyone removed #6 from the same Tav. 102 drawing? Perhaps that gives the access necessary (better/different) to behind the gas tank.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your statement, but just in case...

The hose that connects to the intake manifold (just below the carb) should go to the brake booster in the front, not the heater valve. The heater hose connects to the head in the engine bay.

I suspect mixing these hoses up would not be great. Apologies if I misread your post.

The other thing one could do is insert a wooden dowl. Then apply a marine based aluminum repair epoxy. Sand to shape with a dremel and remove the dowl.
