Becase that is the day I'll be at the SF game. Could give a rats ass about him, but would like to be in attendance at a historic game......That will be my fun for the year.

Q: If you take an objective look at Bonds and lets say he HAS been pumped up on steroids for years, do you think the percentage of the steroid use would have accounted for being so far ahead of current day player Sammy Sosa at 588 home runs? Not sure if I am asking this correctly, but I think you can understand where my question is going.

The Bonds apologists like to say that even if he took steroids it still requires tremendous skill to make good contact with the ball. This is certainly true. What they forget is something you seem to be touching on. Not all of his home runs were 20 ft clear of the outfield fence. Those HRs that cleared the wall by 2, 3 or 5 ft, maybe if he isn't on roids those HRs are just pop fly outs. It's tough to say but I would imagine that steroids could help him in getting an extra 5-10 HRs each year. If he's been roiding since 99, that's 40-80 HRs, which means the Hank Aaron record isn't even a discussion until 2009.

But forgetting all of that, Bonds is just the biggest prick in the game. It will be a sad day in baseball when he gets the record.

Before I comment on your question, all I want to say is that I too can care less about Bonds and that it's a joke MLB has allowed this to go on...that's all.

Regarding your question: In baseball as with any other sport, there are always three types of players, very good, good and average. The average player would probably not gain any leverage by using steroids and most likely if anything, would just go on a hitting streak. A good player will further benefit from steroids only as much as his talents will take him but, a very good player can benefit emensely because of his talents and that's why you see the disparity in home runs between Bonds and Sosa or at least that's what I think

You correctly understad my question (Lotus also). What I think is sad is the fact that a LOT of fans look up to him and he just does not have the class (IMO) that a Hank Aaron, W.Mays, Ruth or other past and current players carried / carry. Am I wrong?

First of all, how do you know he took steroids? Second, if he did, how do you know how it affected him? How do you know that the time he was out of action wasn't because of steroids? He only hit 5 home runs in 2005 when he played in just 14 games. Third, Bonds "apologists" point out that pitchers and fielders (Bonds plays left field, btw) are on 'roids. How many home runs were stolen from him by guys juiced up? Ruth, Aaron, etc. did not have to face pitchers on steroids. Lastly, how do you know that YOUR favorite player is NOT on steroids?

Regarding Sosa, I'll let you in on a rumor....he used them, too. Therefore, he must have been an average player because he is so far behind Bonds. The steroids didn't help him that much.

Biggest prick in the game? Maybe. There was this guy named Ty Cobb that had a lot of records and he makes Bonds look like Mr. Congenialty.

I was at the game when Bonds passed Ruth. Pretty exciting! Being at the game when he passes Aaron (if it's in SF) will be quite a party.

Bonds is a cheater. It does take tremendous talent to play the game, but he still got to this point because he cheated. Everyone knows it, even his fans. His trainer is in jail because he has refused to testify about his steroid use. Henry Aaron did it with pure talent and hard work. Henry has remained silent and I applaud him for that. Hopefully Bonds will get caught eventually and he will be stripped of the title he does not deserve.

I wonder if Barry will follow ARod around when ARod is one or two short of Bonds' record.
For some reason, I doubt it. And Bonds will blame the press as the reason for why he doesn't.

This was the record in baseball that was never to be broken. I think in all sports. Now it's happening every other year.

    Question for you Bonds haters:

If cheaters should be shunned, does Whitey Ford belong in the Hall of Fame? Why not mount a campaign to have him removed? Let's not be hypocritical here. If the integrity of the game is at stake, you should be vocally opposed to an admitted cheater being in the Hall of Fame. Cheating is cheating in my book.

For all of you who have pronounced Bonds guilty, I hope you are never chosen for jury duty. You don't even begin to understand our system of justice.

Look for the redhead tonight right behind the Giants dugout.

I am very anti-Bonds, but very pro Baseball and was there for him hitting 600 and 700. Figure might as well go on a whim. Bought tickets 10 minutes ago...

What I find most disgusting is that the Giants organization will hold onto him just for him to get a record. He had a better chance in an AL team as a DH. The mere fact that SF wants his hobbling ass playing outfield is a joke. I've seen him get thrown out at first when the ball goes to right field all too often. He consistently misses routine fly balls to left field because he's too slow. He is derailing and the Giants support it because of an individual record. Last I checked, the sport is a TEAM sport. I know I would be pissed as all hell if I had a guy who can't field a ball properly.

The bottomline is that from a business standpoint they should probably keep him while they continue restructuring the team. Bonds fills the seats right now more than the team would without him even if the team had a short-lived offseason stint.

Generating the dollars now will likely help the team more in the longrun once Bonds hangs it up, so his presence can be justified and viewed as in the interest of the greater good of the team.

You're right, a cheater is a cheater no matter who or what so this also applies to Sosa, McGuire and I'm sure 30%+ of MLB players and even though he ratted everyone out, I think Conseco was right all along that there is or was a high percentage of players using roids and he wasn't the only one to state this, the late Ken Caminity (spell?) also echoed the same thing.

Is this the same justice who pronounced O.J. Simpson innocent? I guess if I lived in N.California, I'd feel the same way ;-)

Don't get me wrong here, I think Bonds could have been a great player without the steroids (maybe not a homerun hitter) but, nonetheless a great player.

And there is nothing wrong with being a great player, great banker, great sales person, etc. It's when people get money and power hungry is when greed kicks in and they lose focus on doing 'the right thing' within their industry.

    Can you say ENRON?

now another former balco staffer is claiming bonds and gary scheffield were involved with taking "the clear." as much as i hate bonds, i know he's more than likely to get the record, and probably within the next 2 weeks. however, i just have to keep rooting for a-rod and pujols to pick up the pace a little bit. but man was it nice to see bonds have an o-fer the game i went to when the giants were in town...
