I do not believe any of them will, however they do have 'burst' modes which allow you to take anywhere from 2-5 (sometimes more) frames per second. Without sound also.

I'm a novice when it comes to Digital SLR cameras, so excuse these basic questions please.

Can someone elaborate on what in particular would make the Canon XT better than the XTi?

Also, one of the things you get with the more expensive cameras is a lens that has an "image stabilizer" in it. Is that something that is very useful or something that rarely helps? I'm thinking it might help if I'm zoomed in on something trying to freeze action (like taking a picture of a car on a race track), true?

On the Canon Eos 1 D-s MK III you can get aruound 10 frames per second..

But the camera is WAYYYYY expensive.

    I dont remember exact prices...

I haven't heard this claim either, so I'm interested to hear about it too. :)

It depends what you are photographing and in what lighting condition. It can help a lot if you are shooting a lot in low light (non-moving subject, e.g. landscapes). It doesn't help to freeze the action. You'll need a fast lens (e.g. f2.8) for that. IS will allow you to use slower shutter speed than you can normally get away with while hand-holding the camera, but it doesn't help to freeze the action at all.

    Not true.

Olympus makes a D-SLR with two sensors, so it is video capable. I believe it's the E-330.

Don't forget about the Fuji S5 Pro. Its based on the nikon d200 body but with their own set of sensors. The difference is in the ability to capture color and the subtleties of the highlights and shadows.

I've been shooting with the s3 with a Nikon 18-200 VR lens (which I love) I eventually want to get a 1.4 to 1.8 prime lens for shooting cars in showrooms and darker spaces.

Thanks for the earlier feedback on the Digital SLR choices.
I placed an order today for a Nikon D200 with the 18-200 mm lens.

I'm not sure what the "3.5/5.6G EDIF AFSDX VR" designation means about the lens.

Included in the order was the Nikon lens filter kit that includes 4 filters (enhancing, polarizer, 812, and digital ultra clear).
As far as the memory card, I got the 4 gb Sandisk one.

I should get it in a week or so. I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

3.5-5.6 is the aperture of the lens
G means that there is no aperture ring
DX means that is to be used only with digital SLRs
    IF is internal focus
    ED is extra-low dispersion glass
    VR is vibration reduction(very usefull)
AF-S is Nikon's fastest autofocus system.

My first "real" camera shots were using my dad's Leica M3 Rangefinder in the 60's. The first two pics are from an SMU game in about 1966 where Bob Hope came to campus on homecoming, and went to the game with Willis Tate the SMU president then. Then one from the Dallas F1 Grand Prix in 1983.

After years of the early digitals pocket camera's I bought a Panasonic Lumix with "Leica" lens and 10x zoom. The next two pics are from that camera that served me well on hunting, Master's and car rally's where I needed the zoom. The pics are from a car rally near Big Bend in west Texas. Not a bad camera.

But now I have a real camera again. Nikon D-80 with the 28-70 and a 75-300 VR . I am thrilled with the pictures this camera produces, and haven't minded dragging the bag with me yet. The last few were from a Montana trip 2 weeks ago.

Definitely not Piquet. It's Derek Warwick, and the year is '84, not '83. Note the Renault Elf driving suit. There was no Dallas race in '83.

Sorry, I had a senior moment. It was over 100 degrees the day of the race in 1884, and Mansell ended up pushing his car across the finish line. Here are some pit shots, and one from the historic race, with Ford GT's and Lola T-70's..
