Reading thru the log maintained by the past owner, I discovered that the roof and bottom of my 348 was painted red. Later, he applied a flat black paint over the bottom section. I am guessing this was because it is easier to treat rock chips with flat black rather than glossy Rossa Corsa.

I confirmed this by mistake when I was spraying some Krylon flat black over some rock chips. When the spray hit the spoiler, it exposed the red underneath - looked quite similar to the red on the rest of the car.

On to my question: Is there a way to remove just the black top coat and leave the underlying red intact? I want to see how it looks with an all red. I can always put on the flat black later if needed.

The only wierd thing is that my car has a black rubber strip on the leading edge of the front spoiler to take the brunt of the impact. I wonder if it will look wierd with an all-red bottom with a narrow black strip in front. i am keen on keeping the strip as it saved me acouple times from spoiler damage. :D

Try spraying some break cleaner on a rag and then wiping ONLY the area you want to remove the paint from. DO NOT spray the break cleaner on the paint, spray it on the cloth. Have a go at that. You can also use acetone. Just don't go over board cause it will remove the red paint underneath if you go to far. Try a small inconspicuous area first to see how it goes. The other way to get the paint off is to wet-sand/color-sand it off, then buff out the area to a nice shine.

    I know :)

I had just got new tires installed in May and didn't realize it when the shop put the wheels on backwards. Only when looking at these photos a week later that I realized they were on backwards. :)

Thanks Ernie I will look into using a tiny bit of brake cleaner on a rag.

The car was red from the factory. Ferrari is the one who sprayed the black matte over the red. Why I don't know - they quit doing it in the later 348s. Many owners have simply gone back and painted the rockers the car color. As long as you have the red base underneath the matte black, you'll have "red" rock chips.

    Optical illusion? :p

No man! just messing with you. My car has a few cosmetic mods done by the prev owner including the dual scoop front bumper - the left vent provides air to the left brake.

That's why I am not to bothered about changing the look a little. I am never going to win a concours anyway - with all the sniffy judges deducting points for minuteia. :D

Rock chips and concours don't equate. Well done on you for favouring rock chips!!!

Good luck on the brake fluid. Whenever i try anything like that it is a disaster. The whole area will end up brown as will my hands and shirt
