Now that's what I was looking for! I don't know whether the accusations are true, but at least there's a bit of info to chew on. I don't like empty comments like "that's not real" or "I wouldn't follow his advice" without backing them up. I remember the horse episode. To the best of my knowledge, the horses didn't help Bear at all. He tried to jump up on one to ride, but failed and the horses ran off. Looked like more of a demonstration than anything else. I'd be tremendously disappointed to find that some of Bear's shows involved staged tools and gear. It wouldn't be a big deal if that was disclosed from the beginning, but that has not been the case.
I like this show. Somewhat disgusting and I can only imagine how bad some of the stuff smells/stinks. "Ughh...this really stinks".
I would still argue that not unless you were really in that type of situation that anything could be possible and to recreate that for the show requires some liberty. Again, it doesn't change my impression because I'd rather know what is possible. I would challenge anyone to identify one thing that he does that you couldn't at least try(providing you had the skill) and that couldn't possibly save your life? Besides, what isn't even a little bit fake these days? PS - I'll bet that wasn't really pee he was drinking but it sounds like it could provide some hydration if you were really desperate
I haven't seen you make a case yet. You've piggy-backed nicely onto the story that has been posted but haven't brought forth any relevant info of your own. I'm still waiting for you to back up the statement that you wouldn't follow his advice with some reasons as to why that would be.
I believe most people would say that about the elephant dung or the human pee scenarios, but who knows what desperation would drive you to do? What do you have to lose at that point? Once I realized, if I don't drink water soon, I will die. I bet I couldn't drink my own pee fast enough, until then that is F$@##@$ gross!!!!!!!!!
Heck, some of the motels out there could be worse then being in the wild eating your own shlt.(sorry, I just spoiled it for a future "staged" episode )
I said there was something funny about the show didn't I? It seems there is. As for the advice he gives, I told you I haven't cited any specific things because I can't remember what he did and why I wouldn't do it myself. The only one that comes to mind is the peeing on his shirt while crossing the desert. I'd probably never find a reason to do that, and I hike the desert a lot,. It's f'n hot out here in the Phoenix area. What do you have to say for yourself now that "bear grills" has been exposed? Maybe they should have presented the show differently. If they told the audience he was going out to locations to show us possible survival scenarios, and what he would recommend doing in those scenarios, then there wouldn't be a problem, but he didn't, he claims to be "lost" and has to find his way. Either way this crap is trivial. The show is still entertaining. Like I said though, PERSONALLY I WOULDN'T RELY ON HIS ADVICE FOR SURVIVAL.
Yes, you made a few vague statements but never backed them up with any relevant information to support your opinions. You're certainly entitled to have whatever view you want of the show, but since you seemed to think Bear's advice was not worth following, I wanted to know why you felt that way. I figured there must be some basis from which you formed your opinions of the show that was a bit more substantial that what you've mentioned.
LOL. Yea, well he had me fooled. I notice the guy seems to be on Discovery Channel hiatus. I wonder if he'll be back?
I like the show as well, I have a friend who met him and stated he was faking his trips sometimes being only yards away from roads. His Costa Rica episode he was only yards away from the hwy the whole time, I guess it was for his camera crew http://www.abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=3412744
Just watched the Labrador one. He and his crew had to be rescued and choppered out. Palleeaassse. Not sure what's better, fake stuff or the guy having to bail and call in help?(Les Stroud has been bailed out on about 3-4 episodes that I've seen)
