RTB, Can you fill is in with a little more about the programme. For example, do they call you up and say "ok, there's an event in Japan in three weeks, if you can make it, here are the arragements and we'll ship your car." How are the logistics of each event planned? Also, curious to know about the races themselves and the competition between the FXX drivers. Like any other series? Or just more exclusive? Thanks for the great thread, but do watch out for spoiling some of those races for us - some of us watch it on replay. =)
Sorry about spoiling the F1 results - it won't happen again! The FXX Programme is set at the start of the year (March) and we decide which events we want to do. If the event is outside of our region (Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific) then we need to give Ferrari enough notice to sort out all the logistics and they then arrange evrything - car shipping, hotels, etc. The FXX events are not races - they are test and demonstration sessions. We drive against the clock, testing both the car's abilities and our own abilities. Some drivers are quicker than others (some are former racers) and we just let them past - we are all good friends! The cars have full telemetry which we look at at the end of each session, and we then feedback our thoughts to the technical team - cars characteristics, any problems, chnages to make, etc. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Rik - thanks for the additional photos and more insight into the program. The first thing that came to mind of your photo in the last post was - I wonder what these cars would do on the Musannne Straight! (I'm looking forward to seeing the MC-12's run this weekend). Carol
I´m wondering how a FXX would stack up against a MC12 in FIA GT setting. I mean, the FXX is as close as you are gonna get to a full blown competition Enzo, and the MC12 is basically an Enzo. Any thoughts on that? Or any possibility of a shootout between the two?
BTW, an inside look, courtesy of an owner and participant in the FXX-program is just incredible. Thank you for a great read.
Must be so easy to get laid with one fo them umbrella girls when you own a fxx. I need to get myself one haha
Cape Town is always worth a visit - how about closing the road to East London from CT for FXX - fat chance, but a Garden Route race in the Cape - like the TT but with a roof. S. A. might like the advertising...
Hi, I hope you can awnser my touristy type questions, but I just have to ask, when the season is over, can you take your car home? secondly, does Michael Schumacher drive his with you? Third, an ungentleman type question, feel free to not awnser, but how much did you pay for all this? Michael
We can do whatever we like with the FXXs whenever we want - take them home and track them elsewhere, put them in the garage, etc. It's just easier and better to let Ferrari take care of it all, and we create valuable data for the development of the next generation of cars. And the FXX will evolve......... Michael has so far only driven with us at Nurburgring and the Ferrari World Finals last year. I think that the costs of the FXX and the programme are fairly well publicised, so I won't go into details! I hope that helps.
You have to remember that the MC12 competes in FIA GT in accordance with a strict set of sporting regulations, and without these limitations could be much quicker. However, with a big fixed rear wing and competition tyres I would imagine that the FXX would be as quick or quicker.
Thanks for posting pictures and your thoughts on the FXX program RTB, it's fascinating to read about it from the inside! Your car is gorgeous, btw.
RTB, a few questions about the FXX and programme; What is the max RPM redline on the FXX engine? Does the FXX engine use pneumatically operated valves (F1) or conventional springs and cam? Can an FXX owner/mechanic modify the car in order to gain speed and gain time during trials and races? Can any aerodynamic modifications be made? (articulated wings/spoilers)?
Just one more question rtb. Are you so in with ferrari that you could have pit side F1 tickets fro any grand prix?
I haven't tried. I'm usually too busy pit-side with my own team in the European Le Mans Series and watch the Formula One on TV!!
Not surprising to be honest. I remember when the HP figure was first revealed it was far more than was expected for the increase to 6.2 liters. The reasoning for the increased efficiency wasn't ever revealed (not by chance I'd say). One reason they did give was new cylinder liners which are a more smooth compound than the Enzo. It would be interested to eventually know the details. If its pneumatic that could be an interesting indicator towards the next supercar and possibly to the other model lines later. The specially selected owners wouldn't be the ones to leak Ferrari's secrets. (No Nigel Stephany jokes please )
Looks like you are the youngest FXX driver Thanks for the quick chat at Fiorano. Hope to see you again with one of your beautifull cars. Cheers, Roel.
