Yeah its too bad, I'd love to see an American kick some butt. But alas, he is as useless as Super Aguri Sato.
I'm not entirely convinced he's that bad...with the exception of Germany , all of his other DNF's were mechanical this year. Put him in a middle marker car, and my money is that he'd be competitive with them. He's been part of a start up team the last 2 years, and they consistently are a month or 2 behind in getting parts and updates to their cars compared with their Red Bull counterparts.
average finish: SS: 17.4 VL: 18.1 highest finish: SS: 9 VL: 14 I'm no gigantic fan of Scott either, but the guy hardly ever tests. Luizzi always gets testing over Scott. You could have easily change your post to Luizzi sucks. By they way, Scott came out again today telling the story straight. Toro Rosso management is so good they punch in the back and rip you overalls off, take a read. I think Scott has some guts here to tell it like it is at Toro Rosso. http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/formulaone/38964/
interesting piece on speed.com. pretty bad that your team manager roughs up the driver. still, Speed just needs to drive and tgake orders. thats what a driver does. he is quick and should probably test more. I wouldnt want to be in his shoes. how many races has he finished this year ? he just needs to start a race and finish. just finish a race for once. he ran well at Monaco, but thats it. he needs to not have any more DNF's. who is next american in line to be a F 1 driver ? Alex Gurney is 32 years old. he should get a shot. Marco will be a good choice too. Brian
What will be really interesting to see is how Bernie reacts to the major manufacturers, namely Honda and BMW, reacting to his failure to strike a deal with Indy next year. They not only want 1 race now in the US, but 2. I'm very anxious to see how that shakes out. You can tell they were VERY disappointed. Would not be surprised to see Speed end up in Champ Car.
Have you been watching the races this year? Almost of his DNFs, besides Germany, have not been his fault. His STR sucks. Period.
Wow, very hostile... what did Scott Speed do to you guys??? I give him a ton of credit, he stuck it out lives in europe, puts up with all that **** from STR??? Berger & Red BULL... I think poor kid, I wish he had a better car, then he could actually focus on driving!!!! I think the last American that came to F-1 left with his tail between his leggs... Michael Andretti was a great driver and still did not do well. What Speed needs is support, and we cant even give it to the only American in the series???? I think thats why F-1 is NOT coming to America any time soon. but that's my opinion! Tom
He's done a credible job with a crapwagon for a car. STR management seemed to have it in for both Speed and Liuzzi. I'd like to see him get another chance somewhere. Maybe Toyota.
I just don't think he's cut out for it. Things just aren't gelling and not sure that they ever will either. He probably needs to just move on and try to find his niche somewhere else.
i didn't like the guy at first either - but it looks like he is a decent midfield driver (if you look at amount of passing he does at the track when possible - he is probably better than somebody like GF)
I have to agree, to me, he's done enough to deserve a ride with another team. STR is a crap team that thinks they aren't.
+1 it's a total different story if he had a reliable car, and he crashed out on his own, driver error, or takin the whole fuel supple out with him on a pitstop. IMO, he had a very good race in Monaco. it's hard to say if he's a good driver or a useless driver. the car just doesn't seem to give him chance to prove it.
I agree with the majority of you. Scott would be putting up much better results if only he wasn't in a crappy car. The fact that the team thinks they're a front runner isn't helping their drivers either. I'd like to see Scott go to a team like Toyota.
Exactly, bad management that doesn't support the drivers. Liuzzi was an F3000 Champion and he is not any better than Scott.
That's the issue right there. Gerhard and Franz seem to think their team is capable of much more than their drivers are able to do. Granted it's their team, and they should know more than us, but it sometimes gets to a point where they can get in denial and use the drivers as scapegoats.
You mean the Sato that passed Alonso in Canada? As I recall, Toyota was also blaming their poor performance on the drivers in '04. (But then, given that they placed 4th in the WCC in '05 with Trulli and Ralf, there might have been something to that.) Maybe he might fetch up at Honda, after Button gets disgusted and jumps his contract. (Silly season speculation: Button to Toyota, Speed to Honda, Ralf to STR? ) Nah: when you're old enough to drink, you're "over the hill" for F1, these days.
I'm sorry, but I could not disagree more. The car is a POS. And the STR management is a joke. In light of what has recently transpired, if I were Red Bull, I would yank my sponsorship money from that team so fast it would make your head spin. This Tost guy is a complete idiot, and should be banned from the sport. Gerhard Berger managing a team? Exactly what qualifications does he have to manage a team? Because he was a mediocre driver? What a joke. Scott should walk, no, he should run from this team. I am so F!@#$ing pi$$ed at what I have been reading about this team. The most unprofessional POSs ever in the sport.
Scott paid his dues in Europe, lived and raced with Ulcerative Coallitis, kinda scored a point and was stripped, always stayed optimistic about the pending improvements his team promised him. He is getting the shaft like Michael A did and every body thinks he should go crying to champ cars. I say stay in Europe and race something, and get called back up to the big leagues by another team. He's consistently faster than Tony, but sticks with his team mate thru this politics crap. Yes, Sebastial was faster than Tony in testing, so he'll probably get the seat. I say give 'em heck Scott, too many PC voices out there these days, call it like it is. I suspect he could drive well enough to back up the talk given a decent ride. Year 1, fast as test driver, poor health. Year 2, restricted engine rules, crying from the other teams. Year 3, late signing, no develpoment with new engine pkg, team openly looking at drivers. Hit position 3 on practice charts. Good run at Monaco, best racing battle in USGP was SS for 15th place for 20 laps or so. If they wanted to make it tough on the kid they have succeeded. Rambling, sorry.
yeah, I guess everyone has great points. maybe it is the equipment. if he was in a better car maybe be would be running up front. Brian
Yeah and they did that on '02, when they had Mcnish and Salo. They ended up firing both of them at the end of the year.
