Yep, it is the same. It is also on a Cobra at Riverside (or perhaps someplace else - I don't have my notes in front of me) during the same year. The car I am helping to restore raced at Sebring in 1965. It could be some local Sebring thing - we won't know until we can actually read it. Can you tell me where you got the pic? Steve
Steve, I was assuming you were working on the Mecom GTO. Which car from Sebring 1965 are you restoring? I actually don't remember who sent me the photos. In my never ending quest for obscure Donohue references someone sent me photos of all three of the TVRs from Sebring 1963. Gil
Well, the full size restoration is mostly complete, but still missing a couple of stickers, including the one we are talking about. I was contracted to do the sponsor stickers, and I help on a few other items as well. I've wanted to do model car decals for the Mecom Ferrari, but I don't like to just invent stuff when I know it's wrong. The restoration was for the 1965 #6 Corvette driven by Yenko and Bushell. http://images27.fotki.com/v967/photos/5/53649/3851279/DSCN2552-vi.jpg?1185420175 Steve
Here are two photos scanned from the March, 1967 issue of Panorama (Porsche) magazine. It is an ASA that competed in the 1967 Daytona 24 Hrs. and was driven by Donna Mae Mims and Suzy Dietrich. Is that supposed to be MS. Dietrich in the photo? Oh, Oh. That NART badge means another impossible quest to have a model. Anyone know if it was red? Very interesting photo with the ASA. The N.A.R.T. entered two ASA RB613 at Le Mans 1966. Start number 54 was white with blue stripes and start number 61 was red. I think that the Daytona car is the same as n°61 in the Le Mans race. ASA means Autocostruzioni Societa per Azioni and was founded in 1963 by Nicolo de Nora. ASA cars are also called Ferrarina. Giotto Bizzarrini was involved in the ASA project. More ASA infos or photos are welcome! I'll post more photos the next week... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Gil, It looks like Suzy Dietrich, but I have never seen that good of a pic of her. I know for certain that it is NOT Donna Mae! I already have the artwork done for the Ring Free Oil stuff, and that will be available soon for model cars. Now if we can just talk somebody (Etienne???) into making the kit! Steve
Like so: http://public.fotki.com/GMann/chinetti_-_nart/asa_a.html http://public.fotki.com/GMann/chinetti_-_nart/asa_b.html http://public.fotki.com/GMann/chinetti_-_nart/asa_c.html
Sorry, Etienne, I meant 1/24th. The only thing I do in 1/43 are Astons, and only because I cannot get most of them in 1/24th. Steve
Two photos with the ASA entered by the N.A.R.T. at Le Mans in 1966. Number 54 was driven by Robert MIEUSSET and François PASQUIER. Number 61 was driven by Ignazio GIUNTI and Spartaco DINI. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rare photo posted by Bertocchi on page 54 of this thread. ASA 6 cylinder engine at Coco Chinetti's garage. Where is this car today? David, can you tell us? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am not sure. That photo was actually taken at Chinetti Sr.s' house on King Street in Greenwich/Port Chester. Coco has sold many of the cars since his father passed away but still owns several? Could this car be one of those in previous photos on this page? David
Nice to "see" you again, David... It seems that only 3 of these ASA cars, called Roll-Bar were build. One is in Italy, but I think this one has no race history... (photo below from Ruotteclassiche magazine). Maybe the car in Chinetti's garage is the Le Mans n°61 and Daytona n°96 car...? This ASA raced also at Sebring 1967. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello, Id like to add a few photos to the thread. These were taken at the 1973 Spa 1000km event. Most of the shots are from the Saturday evening prior to the race. This was my visit to Spa and I wasnt sure where exactly the circuit was located. I just knew it was outside the town of Spa. I was driving over from Wiesbaden, Germany and after a morning stop at the Nürburgring for a look around and lap around the Nordschleife I finally arrived in the afternoon. I had taken a back route and ended up east of Burnenville. After parking and walking through the farmers fields I watched the touring car race. When the touring cars were done and the roads opened back up to traffic I decided to do a lap around. I was able to gain access to the track at the Malmedy intersection and drove down the Masta straight through the Stavelot corner up through to Blanchimont and onto La Source. As I started down the pit straight I noticed a lot of activity in the pits. After parking the car I walked over to the pits and there were two Ferrari 312PB cars with the mechanics and Jackie Ickx. Ickx was standing on the pit counter watching the activity. The following few minutes were magic. The mechanics were working on the cars as spectators watched and after a few minutes the cars were started. The sounds were incredible! Standing in the pits of one of the most magnificent racetracks in the world and the Ferrari prototypes were right there. When the mechanics were finished they got into the cars and proceeded to drive down the pit lane and then turn backup opposite the race direction and drive back to the garage. This was on public roads in the mix with everyday road traffic! Absolutely crazy. For the race I decided to watch near Burnenville. Being able to experience the cars coming down the hill from Les Combes and then going through the long downhill Burnenville corner was amazing. Standing in the doorway of the café on the inside of the corner with the prototypes going over 140 mph mere feet away is an experience that has stuck with me for decades. In addition to the Spa 1000km, I was able to attend the ADAC 1000km and Le Mans. All three events were unique and present their own challenges on remarkable circuits. But in my opinion, Spa was by far the best. Le Mans might have the magic name and run for 24 hours and the Nurburgring might be the most challenging track, but if you wanted a close-up experience of high-speed motor racing on public roads in then Spa was the place. Thank you for posting photos of what I believe to be the most beautiful sports racers ever built. Brian Redman told me that the 312PB had the nicest gearbox of any car he had ever driven! The mechanic in the first photo is Ermano Coughi who came to Ferrari from Gulf/Wyer and was Nicki Lauda's mechanic at Ferrari. Very cool picture!! David
Hi Bill, I had "captured" these photographs at the beginning of 2003 (I don't remember Internet site ?) Are you the author of these photographs ? Which was the name of the Internet site ? In this time, I had "copied" eleven photographs; it did not have there a filigree into ! If they are your, congratulations. Regards. p.s. you must have others of them ! JLD
All, Thanks for the positive comments on the photographs. David, I agree the 312PB is my favorite sports racer although the 330 P3/4 are a close second. JLD, Yes I am the photographer, in the past I have posted some of these and others on the Atlas Nostalgia forum and Barchetta published some a few years ago. Some have been borrowed and posted by others on various sites. Usually without credit. As time permits Ill post others Bill
Yes, the 312PB is a great race car, but the fabulous red flat berlinetta 312P is my favorit. Chris AMON is seen behind his 312P n°19 with mechanic Antonio BELLENTANI, just before the start of Le Mans 1969. Co-driver Peter SCHETTY didn't have a chance to drive the car in the race because AMON was involved in the first lap crash with John WOOLFE's Porsche 917. John WOOLFE lost his live. The second 312P n°18 was driven by Pedro RODRIGUEZ/David PIPER but DNF. Both cars are fully restored. #0870 is in France with Pierre BARDINON and #0872 is in U.S.A. with Peter SACHS. There is a good history about these cars in Cavallino magazine 99 and 101. Photos: Actualfoto & Autosprint. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Disagree, 0872 has been sold some time ago and belongs to a collector here in Switzerland. Marcel Massini
Bill, will be very much interested if you could post (if you have some) pictures of Ligier JS2 Maserati during Spa 1000km 1974 . Thanks Thierry www.frenchrendezvous.cc/ligier/default.htm
