What to do when your 308 is away

My garage was looking very sad for the longest time. I decided while the 308 was away, this would be the perfect opportunity to spruce it up. So here's my first attempt. The one wall is cement/cinderblock....what a stinker to paint. The other is sheetrock. Cake.

I need to paint a 1/2" black line to seperate the colors (ever try & get a straight line on rough cement? ) so I could get a little sloppy with the colors. A three foot Scuderia Ramparte will go in the middle of at least one wall. Any artists in the house? Trim to follow shortly. The doors & windows I'm thinking white and the back of the garage doors I'm thinking white. I'm thinking if I continue the color scheme all the way around it'll look too much like a box.

I'm shooting for Gianster's look though my little garage is loosing it with the heating ducks. Oh well.

My suggestion for an easy way of painting the horse is to blow it up on a zerox machine to the size you desire and cut it out and paste it together (if its bigger than legal paper). Then use the negative image (the piece of paper with no horse in it), tape it to the wall and mist black spray paint over it in several coats so it doesn't drip.

You might be able to get the Cav from a dealer. I think they use stick ons........

 

the stick-ons wouldn't stick on a cement wall, but thanks for the idea. I may use it for the sheetrock wall if I go with two images.
And the ramparte...I'm thinking 3' tall or so. That eliminates a xerox.
But I do have a Ferrari Flag what I'm thinking I can trace & cut out for a stencil. I'll give it a shot for tonight.

 

Ok, another thing wall artist do is to make a transparency copy and put it on an overhead projector. Shoot it at the wall and you have a perfect guide. You still need a steady hand...

 

Clyde, get someone with a vinyl machine to cut you out the horse - then throw away the horse itself and keep the outline as a stencil - stick it to the wall (it will stick temporarily) and paint away.

agreed. Its the best way to do it. I think i might have an overhead projector lying around somewhere in the attic.

 

Ok, I'm pin-striping the lines between the colors now. Laser light didn't stick to the semi-gloss paint, neither did any sort of tape (less duct tape) so I ended up working with chalk snap-lines. That works ok.

I was able to enlarge a Ramparte to 8x11 transparency with pretty good results. The only way I've found to project/enlarge it is with a Flood flashlight. Clearly the batteries won't last for more than 5 minutes. Nothing else around the house seems to work well enough.

So Shivam, if you have that overhead transparency project, I'd like to borrow it.

Update:
A windshield is ordered, so the car should be back within 2 weeks. So it was time to get off my butt & paint the Ramparte.
Though I don't trust myself with any artist's brush, I do think this came out pretty darn good! One more to go on the other side!

I'm a tough critic Clyde, so trust me when I say it looks really good!

 

I couldn't find an overhead. I tried to reduce it to 35mm & use a slide projector, but there wasn't enough room in the garage to get a decent size. So I ended up shining a light at a steep angle through a transparency. Then drew the outline with a pencil. A Rube Goldberg for sure.(that's a cinderblock wall, so drawing/painting wasn't any fun)
