great photo's. it is odd that they all have the ferrari and horse in the same location, it makes me wonder the dealership was putting them on back in the day.

seeing the 599 in the background of one of the photo's makes it even more apparent at how small the dino was/is compared to the more modern ferrari's. i think this is what is mentioned in the wave of "newer" ferrari's over the next several years (ie- fxx mille chile)

Back then Maranello Concessionaires were having trouble selling these things and I think its true to say there was a period where every car imported into UK had the Ferrari badge bolted on before it went into the showroom. The prancing horse was probably customer preference. I have a car that is original from day one and thats how it is.

Well... just because the dealer put it on does not make it original. It would only be original if the factory installed it, which it didn't.

Who gives a toss whether the factory put the Ferrari badge there or not. The Dino deserves to wear the Ferrari badge much more proudly than many other models with the badge screwed on at the factory, and costing a whole lot more.

Ummm.....theres a subtle difference between an Importer and a dealer. The Importer is a de facto agent for the factory. Shall we settle for semi original ? Any UK supplied Dino that gets restored minus the Ferrari badge would not be as originally delivered.

There is a documented, platinum winning Dino 246 GT with a factory installed/delivered "Ferrari" badge on the aft section.
Brian P, care to chime in?

I remember reading somewhere that if a customer went to the factory to pick up his or her car, the guys there would pop one on if the customer so requested (and presumably paid a small fee).

This is a very hot topic. I got blasted for commenting on it several months ago. Dino owners have personal preferences just like anyone else. If the owner paid his own hard earned money to buy the car then he can do whatever he darn well pleases with it!! I'm not saying another word!!

Aloha..When Jim Sweeny bought my 206 in 1969 in Italy it had the emblems on the trunk lid......he left them there when he restored the car..........I left them there because I didn't want to repaint the trunk......

it all works out in the end......

It may just be me, but I get a kick out of watching people walk around the car trying to figure out what it is. If the badges are already on and it means a repaint, the answer is obvious. But why anyone would want to add them is beyond me. The best part of the car is the perfect symmetry of its lines and simplicity of its markings. The horse and name are ego matters only. Why not just lacquer a bunch of $100 bills onto the hood?

Yesterday, some jackass in an 2003 AMG S55 roared up on my right, cut between me and the pickup in front of me going 75 leaving about a 3 inch space, hit the brakes, tried to pretend he wasn't looking. I gave him a sarcastic thumbs up for his stupid move in heavy interstate traffic, so he gave me a bird (elegant, like his car--not!) Then he tries to impress me with his acceleration when we both pulled out to pass when a gap opened up. His car had four AMG tags on it. He drove like a moron in a 350+ hp car, which he was. I hope that when he crashes his Benz one of those badges gets branded into his forehead or butt in the fire. Hope he loves that car, worth less than 50% of what he paid!

Ha! That's funny! If he keeps driving the way you describe, it shouldn't be long...
