I am interested to see if the new car sticker price was much different from the low $400ks.... Obviously, the cars have now surpassed that point again. Joe www.joesackey.com Image Unavailable, Please Login

... is there an F40 with a pair of parachutes! Once-upon-a-time this F40 looked like every other USA-spec car but Amir R's all-conquering Virginia City Hillclimb car is now a Bonneville Salt Flats racer and, well.... just look for yourself :-0 Joe www.joesackey.com Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Joe, I read a story about Ron Tonkin that was enlightening, seems like a real straight shooter. Excellent photo of his collection, incredible, I thought they only made 272 GTO's.
Would this perhaps be the same car? Classic Cars magazine, December 1995. PS You can see how much an impression Ferraris made on me as a child! - nearly 12 years later I still managed to identify that lighting and floor in an instant, and match it with the advert that has stuck in my mind to this day Edit - hmm.. on second thought I doubt it is the same car... or at least was taken at the same time - you've got Arnages lined up next to that F40, which were introduced in 1998 if I'm not mistaken. Quite a bit later... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, Ron Tonkin is a great guy indeed, now semi-retired, very inspirational story. I got to know him 7 years ago because of his dry-sumped Miura SV that we had to chat about at the time. The 'understanding' with 288 GTOs is 7 prototipos, 272 production cars (I have all the chassis numbers and my list also shows 279 cars total). At any rate, Ron's car is the LAST 'official' one and he is pretty proud of that. Lore has it that Enzo saw to it that he got that car. Joe www.joesackey.com
What about the cars Jim Carpenter convertered to 288 form? There are a few 308--->288 versions that are very mentionable. In particular is the one that Michael Sheehan had for offer about a year ago. That car had over 500K into it and was quite the item...
Replicas. Back on topic: I hear that the ex-Rod Stewart 1990 F40 with 7,000 plus miles asks $495k. Joe www.joesackey.com Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I saw that car. I agree, it was quite the item...Carpenter went to great lengths to replicate the cars.....it was really interesting to look at.
I Drove that car. It has been gone thru yet again and is nothing short of amazizing. If those that own an F40 had the chance, as I did, to expierence this beast. Smiles would be a given. This was a no cost experiement of excitement. Replicar my arse. If the the p4/5 is christentened as an F car-this should be POPE...
Calling a Ferrari fully and completely turned into another Ferrari a replicar isn't correct.... It is a Clone. Clones are still highly desirable cars if they are done right, and a spot on example of the car on which it is based. Converting a MR2, or Fierro into a Ferrari is something else.... and making a ground-up replica of a 288 would be a replicar. There are varying levels to compare against. the question I'd have is at what point on the value scale would a pristine Clone of a 288 compare against a less then perfect original 288?
The culprit of this extravagazy was incarcirated and revealed on an aired CSI remake. The car is nothing short of of a phenom. Makes one wonder as to as what is real. Many of the suppozed "real" 250 GTO's fall short of originality. Are they replicars??
For that matter, what of fully restored cars that all that existed as the current owner found it was a decrepit chassis with a VIN stamp surviving on it... and upon restoration, which vintage the car is restored in is correct? are they all wrong? A ferrari doesn't share the same mark of value as a numbers matching Copo Camaro... all that seems to really matter is that the numbers exist in one form or another (or in some cases... unproven with 01 shown last year at Pebble).
HUH? WHAT are you talking about? Please explain in English, but for heaven's sakes, not here on the USA F40 thread. There are threads elsewhere for vintage cars, and there might even be threads for Rebodies, Replicas, Recreations and Reinventions too... USA F40 commentary though is most welcome Joe www.joesackey.com
