I may be looking for a passenger side (if the passenger side is different from the drivers side) used (can be bad as I would only need the case, the honey comb inside can be loose, I will remove it) converter. I say that because my drivers side converter is bad and my passenger side may still be OK. I am considering using the OEM cats and removing the internal bricks (honeycombs). Then installing a Tubi or similar muffler. Anyone? Any thoughts on this?

Remove both cats Rodney and smash out the insides (honeycomb) and refit. ;);)
As long as you do not have to have yearly emissions tests performed in your State, then you will be right. :D:D

I think a better option is to buy some test pipes. ;)

I would hate to see you be in a situation in where the cat hads to be reinstalled. Spend a little $ now or big $$ later.

Haha!! Yeah, but if one is already ****ed, then smash the rest of it out and refit. :D:D
A friend of mine had a melted cat the other day on his Skyline. He smashed out the melted crap and bolted it back on. ;);)
We do not have yearly emissons tests here, so no chance of getting in trouble for it. Other Countries emission rules vary, of course. Not that I totally recommend doing it this way, but it can be done. :D:D

One other consideration -- it's not just what your particular emissions testing is. When you are ready to sell the car, you'll likely need to refit working cats for many buyers. Not every prospective buyer lives in a 'testing free' zone, or choses to run pipes. I think pipes are great, but they do cause more trouble at re-sale time. Whether it's the labor to refit cats, or marketing to a smaller pool of potential buyers, it's just something to consider.

I have a set of good cats and a spyder muffler I can sell you. With the test pipes and the muffler it sounded excellent. (Not annoying, but commanding) I had already ordered my x-ost, otherwise I might have just left it at that. You can buzz be on the cell or send a pm, Scott
