My lovely bride, Mrs. dm_n_stuff, would like to take a mini vacation. She recently traveled to Spring Lake, NJ for a couple of days and loves the place.

So what can you guys tell me about it. We have a list of places to stay, we're gonna go on a scouting run this weekend for the day.

Good place, bad place? Old fart place? Too many kids place?

I'm looking for some beach, a little town, and some peace and quiet, along with high speed internet and cable TV of course. I'd prefer a suite or cottage if possible.

    Walden on the Pond?
    The Hewitt Wellington?
    The Ocean House?
    The Chateau?
    Evergreen Inn?
    Grand Victorian?

So give me the scoop, please.

Oh, and as an added bonus for you tri-staters (I still have a soft spot in my head, er heart for all of you) I have 15 FerrariChat Lanyards with personalized name tags available, FREE. Daniel at Ricambi America www.ricambiamerica.com has sponsored this item. Rob has made them available on a first come/first serve basis in a couple fo the regions. They will be personalized with your name (first or first and last, your choice) and your User ID here. I can also include your AVATAR if you are subscribed.

So PM me about the Lanyard/name tag if you want one with,

    Your full name
name as you want it on the tag
    mailing address,
    City, state Zip

and yes/no on adding your avatar.

They're goin' out Friday, 1st Class Mail. So hurry and get me your info.

FIRST 15 GUYS OR GALS only!!

Spring Lake is very nice, with a great road that runs along the ocean with many places to stay along it. (Sorry, can't provide names.) The town is small and quaint. The beach is nice also, but you can't take food on it...

Everyone get the 'ban shivam' avatar on their lanyard, hehe.

Spring Lake is gorgeous, you will love it. My brother just bought a house in Sea Girt and I'm down there on weekdays. I'm unfamiliar with places to stay though.

PM sent for lanyard, let me know your opinion on getting an avatar on there. I'll send you my real one instead of this ban shivam nonsense, that damn guy is taking over the world you know.

I have stayed at 2 different B&B's there in the past few years, The Normandy Inn and Seacrest by the Sea, both right next to each other on Tuttle Avenue. Both were very nice, but i would reccomend the Seacrest for the amazing breakfast that was servered by the InnKeepers. Absolutely delicious.

The town is very nice too, lots of quaint shops for the gf to shop in, decent restaurants for the evening.
My one favorite place there, Sisters Cafe is now closed, but Matisse directly on the ocean in Belmar (one town north) is very good. Ask the local for their faorite spots, they are usually right.

Manasquan is close by too, another nice little town. Broadway Grill for a great sandwich for lunch.

Point Pleasant is also close by..

    Enjoy

I've had homes in Spring Lake and Sea Girt for the past 24 years and I love both. I would recommend The Chateau. Make dinner reservations early. Mattisse and Brandl in Belmar are two of the best. Both are BYOB.
    Have fun!!!

I have a summer house there this year. Its a block from the beach. The beaches are clean, never crowded and the best part is how quiet things are are. I highly recommend it.

    Hi Dave...

The wife and I love Spring Lake (aka the Irish Riviera). We've been vacationing there for the past 15 years... we even got engaged there. Its very family oriented and has no night life. and for that reason, its very clean and quiet. Not sure if thats an attribute for you though. If you want pristine beaches and tranquility, then you'll be golden there.

We usually stay at the Sandpiper Inn which is within the first ocean block at the south end of town. Ownership recently changed hands and we hvnt been back with the new mgmt, so I cant give you a strong recommendation.

If you do stay there before Labor Day, I suggest you try a small restaurant called the Avon Pavilion.... its abt 5 min north of SL in Avon By the Sea... just over the Shark River Drawbridge. Its situated right on the boardwalk and is strictly casual, but their seafood fare it first rate. I know they close shop after the holiday though.

Dave, it's the place I mainly go to for the beach. Nice, CLEAN, gorgeous homes. no rude or white trash people. Make sure you eat at The Parker house. it's an old house turned restaurant/night club/bar (at night). I forget the name of the street it is on, but its right around the corner from the beach in sea girt (which is just an extension of spring lake).

Spring Lake and Sea Girt are great....I am writing from Sea Girt right now taking a quick break from the city mid-week. There being so many replies to this original question perhaps we should pick a weekend for all of us FChatters that are local to SL/SG to get together to show off our cars...? Anyone interested. I just got a red/black '89 Mondial T and would definitely be up for it....

I live in Sea Girt and my "Toy Box"(as my wife calls it) is in Wall. We could meet there.

In my opinion the Breakers is the best hotel in Spring Lake, across the street from the beach, has a great restaurant, pool etc. A little pricey but Spring Lake is as nice as the Jersey Shore gets. Check out a legendary restaurant on Route 35 in Neptune, Pete and Elda's, the best pizza I have ever had ANYWHERE (including Italy), thin crust, razor thin. Expect a bit of a wait but well worth it.
