Anyone happen to know the p/n for the 400i hood struts, and if they per chance happen to cross with anything else? Tried doing a search for them on Maranello Concessionaries site through the Ferrari Owner's Site but they don't list them.

    Cheers,
    Aaron

If the strut is weak, it can be rebuilt to factory spec.

Call: Stephen Penner @ LIFT SUPPORT TECHNOLOGIES in Canada. (306) 683-5000

Whatever you do, don't turn the strut over trying to fool it. The seal then dries out and the strut can't hold a recharge - instant junk:-(

    Good luck,
    Hank

    Aaron,

did you try www.trutlands.com for your hood struts? I think they have the original ones in stock. Not cheap, though.

50 Dollars really isn't so bad. I don't know how these parts dealers make up their prices but sometimes there are differences of 100-200%. And even though the exchange rate of the dollar is not very favourable at the moment, you might end up getting your parts much cheaper in the UK, even if you consider shipping and customs.
Sometimes prices are just obscene. For a set of what they claim were the originial hood struts for my 365 GT4 2+2 they wanted $ 600, which I think is three times the price of a set for a 400, from which they seem to be different. And it's about twelve times the price of a set of non-original, modern struts that are of much better quality.
Needless to say, although I try to keep my car as original as possible, I opted for the latter.
Anyway, even if they are original, it most likely means one of two things: Either they are original old stock, which means they are more than 30 years old and won't last you more than five minutes, or they're relatively cheap reproductions.
Another example are air filters. Most dealers in the US will take around $ 300 for a pair. In the UK I pay 80 pounds which is roughly $ 150 and I wouldn't be surprised if they were still available with your local NAPA or AAMCO dealer for $ 50 or less...

I got a price for new struts last year (from GT Car Parts, I think), but they only sell in pairs. I need just one. If anybody wants to split a new pair with me, I'm in.

Hi everyone, it's been a year since I last checked out the site; I was selling my 400GT but have finally, after much umm and ahh-ing decided to keep it. I too now need some replacement hood (bonnet) struts, but am not fussy about having originals. Can anyone recommend who I can buy from at a reasonable price, and who will then ship to good old UK?

    Regards, Ray.

Thanks to Hank Sound and the other Users on this Ferrari Chat Line, which are all too numerous to mention, we now have a steady flow of refurbishing the original and or supplying New Hood Supports and Deck Lid Supports for the fine line of Ferrari Automobiles. We are able in most cases to maintain the original Ferrari logos and Markings from the tube of the cylinders during the repair process. Contact us by e-mail at [email protected] or vist the web site of www.lstechnologies.ca or www.customgassprings.com if you have any questions that you need answered.

Are there part numbers on these hood struts? Can you measure them both compressed and extended, and post a photo?

I looked up the Sachs/Stabilus listing, and they only list a "408" in 1981...which is obviously a typo. Here is the description, does this sound right?

    SACHS Part # SG237001 {Eyelet End Fittings: 22" Ext. 13" Compr. Length}
    Category: Trunk Lid Lift Support

$47.79 each (this is the price from Rockauto.com)
