As I was cleaning my 360 I noticed that a white dust seems to be covering the engine and components. Does anyone have this same issue? Not sure if its just dirt or something more to it?

It's the "asbestos-like" (but not asbestos) insulating material between the actual muffler can and it's protective cover. It's a two piece unit that expands when hot, releasing some of the powder. Fix: buy a Capristo or Tubi.

You've uncovered the Top-Secret Prototype for the resurrection of Johnny Z. DeLorean's company.......well, the "Private Financing" part of the deal, anyway.

With John himself gone now, we'll never see how great it could have been.

Sounds suspiciously like it could be aluminium oxide, or 'rusting alumium'. I had some signs of this on my Stradale and I solved it by spraying aerosol liquid wax onto the exposed alumium of the engine.

How about something as simple as, where your car was parked or an area you drove through...possibly construction site etc., etc...

The 360 generates a vacuum in the engine bay as a result of the diffussers, so that if you drive at any speed over a dusty road, you'll suck the road grime into the engine compartment.

I know a tech who had a 360 with an oil leak that did not show at all when stationary, but would leak oil at > 70 mph because of the pressure differential. Very difficult to diagnose.

Its most likely just something from the road.

I get the same thing. It's noticable on the black air filter housing and black plastic side panels. Looks like ash. Stock muffler, soon to be replaced so we'll see if its from the insulation.

Hasn't anybody done a search on here for this? It is the insulation.
Again, RifleDriver would have answered this in a heartbeat had someone not ran him off of the forum.

Yep i had it.. its the insulation from the back box being forced out when the box gets hot.

Only way to stop it is to get a sports exhaust.

Mine's exactly the same. Stock exhaust. Easy to clean, but also glad to hear it's typical...

A friend had the exact same complaint- replaced with Stradale exhaust and now it's fine.

I agree about Rifledriver !!! How messed up is that ??? I had a very bizzare and difficult to find gearbox issue few months ago and Rifledriver guided my mechanic over the phone true this and we found and fixed the issue !!! He is the MAN.

Is there any way we can get him back here ??? Ferrarichat is not the same without him !!! Any thoughts ???

Throwing it out there.... Have you had the car detailed at any point recently? Often times when buffing/polishing white dust kicks out and gets everywhere. Often times many detailers do not open the engine bay to wipe down the excess polishing dust.

Was that Brian's take on it? Although I highly respect Brian's knowledge of Ferrari's I don't understand how it could be the insulation. Maybe someone else can fill me in.
