hi i have 2 remove the heads of our 308 and im not quite sure how 2 remove them once everything has been diconected? edwin
the GT4 engine is virtually identical to all the 308's, especially once everything is stripped away. If the engine is not already removed, you would make life much easier on yourself to remove it from the car. The heads will most likely be corroded to the studs and will require great effort to remove. A steel plate can be fashioned to work as a head puller. DO NOT use tools or wedges to pry it off by driving tools into the head gasket area, you will do $$$$$ damage. If its not stuck awfully bad, you can gently pry against the bottom of the head where it hangs out over the block and use leverage against the studs out the front of the block, but be very gentle. If your putting enough strain to flex the studs, you prying to hard. Put some PB Blaster or some type of light oil down the studs and let it sit a day or so and try again. A solid piece of wood under the head overhang and a good whack or two with a mallet usually gets them moving.
Obviously I know that. The reason I asked is because it makes a difference how the engine comes out depending on which car it is.
Ed be very careful. Paul is right DON'T pry them apart. If your car is a GT4 search for Davidriver's thread on pulling a GT4 engine. There are quite a few on pulling a 308 engine. The big difference is how you have to tilt them, what has to be removed to clear the frame, and how you don't whack the GT4 backglass or trunk.
