    Should the fan blow forward????

I mean when I drive the cooling air passes from front to rear, but (there is always a but) when standing still the fan starts to blow and just by accident when passing by in shorts I noticed a warm blow on by leg. When I checked the fan is actually blowing through the condensor the "wrong" way. Is this correct or what?

Check out Goth's thread on fixing his idle in this section, I think this is exactly what he fixed...

Yes that might be the case. The question is..........are they all the same way??? If your car is running idle and the A/C is working can you feel some warm air blowing out of the vent duct just below the right fog light when the condensor fan runs???

I thought someone connected the wires the wrong way or the cooler was clogged?

Got to lift her up and take the cover off just to find out what really is going on in there.

This is considered "normal" on a 355. The Goth thread shows that it is not correct, but is normal for a 355. You CAN correct it, by following his modification. My friend Aeroengineman has performed the mod, and say his motor runs cooler, and does not have the idle stalling problem.

I think your fan may be wired up incorrectly Ben. :) Here are some pics I just took of my car for you. When the condensor fan kicks in, I can feel air been sucked in through the scoop and I can feel warm air coming through the inner wheel arch, in front of the RHF tyre. :) As you can see in the pics, with the condensor fan on, the paper is stuck to the front of the air scoop. The second pic shows me trying to hold the paper from being sucked into the fan. :):)
When I got my car home after I purchased it, (with the car cool and turned off) I reached in the scoop and removed a plastic bag, some leaves and a few cigarette butts. :p:p

I suggest starting your car and a/c mate and try feeling for warm air coming through the wheel arch. Even try that paper trick I just did and see how you go mate. :):)

Yep I will pump her up and take off the cover and see wht is wrong in there.

You know you are using a Swedish paper there. Sandvik is a Swedish multinational company. You work for them?

The engine runs beautiful, idle or 7500 rpms. That is not the problem.
If the fan is blowing the "wrong" way, it will be forced to go backwards when the car is moving, which I think is not healthy at all. Not for the fan and the el. motor and certainly not for the A/C system itself.

Have to make that check asap.

    Cheers,

I know the Sandvik Company quite well. ;);) I work on all their machines Tamrock/Sandvik in an underground mine. :D:D

Check it out Ben and let us know mate. :):) It may be as simple as wiring the fan up the other way to reverse the airflow. Its that simple. :):)

I have now taken all that apart and as far as I can understand most of the air passes by the fan...........say something like 75 % or so. How strange it might sound some air is pressed forward as well. Not much but enough so you can feel it if you hold your hand there. Might just be the same situation we saw on the sketch earlier. Some kind of air flow disturbance. Anyway the fan runs the correct way so I have to find out how to increase the airflow through that duct one way or the other.

One of the neighbours is working with A/C. All sorts.........cars, houses, conservatories etc.
He is going to be my consultant. Anyway.........the sketch Goth made shows what to do. Have to try with bits and pieces just to avoid that turbulens ( how do you spell that one). However, that will be a winter project. Tonight I am ripping of the covers under the alternator and the compressor and then I am going to check the tension of those two belts. Have a whistling sound just when I increase the revs from idle and up. Guess one of them is a little bit slack.

And just how long ahve you been awake now?

    72 hours and counting????

    Cheers,

The whistling noise that increases with RPM is more than likely 'alternator whine'. :):)
Would be best to wire in a noise suppressor to alternator to stop that mate. :):)

Unless it actually is a loose belt? :)

If you can, post some pics of the fan set up you have under the shrouding. That way we can do a group troubleshoot :)!

    The alternator belt was ok.
The compressor belt needed to be tighten a little bit, but can you believe this?

When I mounted the new compressor last winter I obviously tightened the nut that locks the adjustment bolt so hard I could not get it loose last night. God, I was so mad last night. The nut is not easy to get at first of all and when you tighten it you pull towards yourself. Unscrewing that nut means of course now you have to push that wrench. On top of it all it is a locking nut which lmakes it even worse. I just did not have the strength to loosen it. Now, I have to ask my wife to help me and you can all figure out how much prestige the manhood is loosing here. Me pushing from underneath and she pulling the same wrench from above. What a cirkus. Will NOT show any photos of this event, that is for sure.
