The markings on the nose are throwing me off, because those are 1982 sponsor decals but that clearly is not a 126 C2. I'm going to go with 1983 for the year, Miguel Alboreto & Patrick Tambay as the drivers and 126 C3 as the car.

I haven't a clue what circuit that is...

edit: I'll guess Monza only because of the bag with Italian writing on it in the second pic.

You're right, Alboreto didn't drive for Ferrari until 1984, so it was Arnoux.

Is it a 126 C3 or 126 C2B (which they drove for part of the season)?

Hmmm - Memory of those far off days is getting dodgy, but I'm guessing it's earlier - 1980/81, GV and Jody S ??? 126-something?

It's definitely not Silverstone - no elevation change behind the pits there. I initially thought Brands, looking out at Clearways, but I don't remember it having "signs" at the top.....I also have no idea :-(

[But, you gotta love the way the car's slightly "off kilter" sitting on the stands and the **** on the tires etc - Those were the days :) ]

    Thx for posting,
    Cheers,
    Ian

    1982 - Las Vegas GP (aka Caesar Palace GP) - 25 September 1982 - Ferrari 126 C2

#28 Mario Andretti - DNF - rear suspension

#27 Patrick Tambay - DNF - driver unfit

(they took over from Giles Villeneuve & Pironi - Pironi took a win from Giles, Giles died next race)

    Carol

second thought from look of garage I wouldn't think a temp circuit - not Monza - I've been in the garages there and the set up is backwards (unless things have changed).

there is a bit of a clue with the woman in photo #1 - obviously it's cool and she's wearing boots and a long sleeve shirt. The way she's wearing her purse is Europeanish. Who is she?

    You FChatters are doing great.

Yes it is the C3 and the clue to the track is in the pic of car 27.

I also managed to get a shot of Patrick Tambay and they either let us in the pits or I managed to sneak in, I can't remember.

I don't think it's Las Vegas because I don't recall seeing 'Shell Oils' billboards on the grandstands, I could be wrong.

I will have to compare and see what races they had 'Olivetti' on the car, because at Detroit in 1984, it was not
    on Arnoux's car.

Nope notice the rear wing. It cannot be '82.

I don't know the year, but I think the circuit is Brands Hatch.

1983 Dutch GP at Zandvoort 28 August 1983 - his last win ? ? ? If this is the case, then 27 is Tambay who finished second in the race as I recall.

It's also the suspension treatment. All of the other early-to-mid 80's Ferraris had some sort of cowling over the fronts. The '83 was the only one exposed like that. (although I don't know what the 126 C2b looked like, so I had some question)

The wing is the dead give away though...

Still have no clue about the circuit. That berm should help, but I don't know the track layouts from those days to call it with any certainty.

Impressed with the sleuthing talents on here. C3, black rear wing, shell oils..I know others have said Brands and I'll go with that too. That Eagle sign is throwing me off though...

+1 - I initially thought Brands, as mentioned above, but I just don't remember all the signs at what would be the top of the grassy bank at Clearways - Who the hell is "Eagle" anyway? :)

    Cheers,

It's definitely the C3, which debuted mid-season at Silverstone. It was the first all composite chassis with no removable center bodywork (except for the access panel over the brake fluid reservoirs).

From looking at the wings, it's not Silverstone, Hockenheim or Monza. My guess is European GP at Brands in Sept.

    Well done!!

    You are good :)

Yes it was Brands Hatch, The European GP after the Las Vegas GP was confirmed by Bernie fell through and switched to Brands at the last minute.

Here is a shot that I took of Tambay which gives it away.

Thanks Dean, that was fun and those are incredible shots from a wonderful era. The early turbo era races were wonderful as picking a winner in advance was truly difficult, there weren't any prohibitive favourites . A salute to others who contributed in the thread, you folks are beyond amazing, you all know your stuff......
    How about another quiz ?

Thanks for the answer - Plus, I (think!) I now remember that we camped out in the woods for the W/E (Pay to get in on Friday, and then basically hide in the woods until Sunday afternoon - Those were the days!) and so didn't get around to the club circuit/Clearways to see the signs....

    Cheers,
    Ian
