I have been teaching myself over the last 18 months. Most of what I'm best at are abstract/detail shots, but I'm currently bored with this and trying to branch out, taking more
car "portraits" and the like -- or work in environments were not everything is controlled. Here are some of my favorites over the past year starting with the most recent. Since
I can't figure out how to embed photos directly from links, or interleave text and photos, I will just give the titles first. Comments are welcome (please be honest -- harsh is
OK) and if you want links to full size please email me.

    Thanks Christian for the encouragement!
I use just standard equipment, Nikon D70 w/ Nikkor 18-70mm lens. No tripod as of yet. For software I use Photoshop and Graphic Converter.

The 18-70 is a great lense, i have it teamed with my d50.
Very nice shots, I am still learning the ins and out of the abilities of the camera, as well as myself ,the photo hobbiest.

So far i like every 50th pic :)

Graphic Converter is free, or at least came installed on my computer. It is very limited, but what it does (basic filtering/color adjustments) is all of higher quality than Photoshop, runs more quickly, and has a better interface. The controls Photoshop offers, however, are more relevant to how I think about pictures -- in terms of tones and tonal contrasts. Since you can only shift a range of tones in camera by adjusting exposure, there are still some relationships that must be fixed offline so that the picture corresponds better to what was "seen", and Photoshop is the only tool that allows me to do this. But I do hope someday they can do a basic overhaul of their algorithms rather than rely on code written 20 years ago.

I do use heavy processing, but under the restriction that the picture remain absolutely faithful to what was really "seen", or intended at the time of exposure. Sometimes I have to stop short from
limited ability in handling color. One thing about color is it is a lot more fragile, you can get away with much more extreme adjustments in B/W.
