I'm in the process of buying a 355 ...i didn't get it yet. So my question is , is someone selling a 355 and what are the things that I need to be carefull before buying this car. I spoke iwth my mechanic and he told me a couple of things....but maybe you can share with me your own experience...

They are great cars and all the 'issues' add to the ferrari mystique. There would be nothing to complain about, if one does not have any four and five figure repair bills..... ;)

The F355 is a great car. Like all Ferraris there are varying items to look out for and to keep in prospective. From owning one ('98 F355 GTS) since the beginning of the year, these are what I have came accross:

Major Service at time of purchase

    After 2,000 miles:
    Replaced original brake pads (Porterfields)
    Replaced 1 shock actuator
    Fix 1 shock (broken gear)
    Fix A/C vent actuators
    Replaced 1 wheel (broken inserts)
Replaced a couple of fuses for AC and Lights
    Replaced speakers (originals blown out)

These items were not planned, however, it is understandable for a car almost 10 years old. As far as some of the other items I have heard about (headers, cats, valve guides) I have not seen any of these issues on the car. The headers look clean and solid. The oil consumption is very low (no signs of valve issues). When buying a Ferrari, information is key. Also having a maintenance budget is key as well.

Luciano - your question really is quite broad to get you the specific answers you seek. It's much like asking, I'm going to date a red head, what can I expect.

If it were I, I would hit the search for the following:
    355 issues
    355 problems
    355 headers
    355 guides
    355 service
    355 major
    355 clutch
    355 pricing
    355 PPI (prepurchase inspection)

this way you'll have a better understanding of what to expect before your first date.

    good luck

Shivam's list was quite good and comprehensive. I recently gave it to a friend of mine that was looking for a car in Chicago. By the way, I think theres a very nice 98 355 Spider being sold through Maranello Motorsports (private sale) in Miami. Ask for a guy named Willie. I have no relationship with them by the way.
