Saw a clip on WWL where a new study was released showing a good trend in population growth in New Orleans. It does NOT account for undocumented workers like other studies have.

    July 2006 225,000

    July 2007 275,000

I was a little surprised by the increase of 50k.

Hi John, thanks for the info. I'm not really surprised by these numbers. When I moved back to my repaired home in Lakeview one year ago this month, there were only 4 or 5 of the 22 houses on my block back. Now there is 10 and 3 more new homes being built. I think some areas are coming back much quicker then anyone thought they would!

What part of Lakeview? My girlfriend's parents moved back into their home 14 months after the storm and my girlfriend just bought a house on Robert E. Lee.

I'd love to see some documentation to back these claims up. I talk to contractors and subs everyday who say they are losing jobs due to people getting fed up and leaving. House for sale signs in my neighborhood are everywhere. If this is the case, they HAVE to be counting the migrant workers towards Chocolate Rays benefit. Of course, it stands to reason, flush the human SH-- out of New Orleans into Jefferson and the people of Jefferson will simply pack up and leave it seems.

John, I'm on the corner of Argonne Blvd and Polk St. Between Harrison Ave and the 610.

On Dave's comments, what I have been seeing in Lakeview and Mid-City at least, is a lot of people that wanted to be in New Orleans since before the storm who couldn't afford some of the property values then. Now, they are picking up bargins. So, I feel that some of these numbers may be coming from this group.

    Just my .02,
    Bob

The house that was bought on Rob. E. Lee is gutted and was purchased for 145k, appraised at 187k, and is about to come with 50k Road Home check! Talk about a discount...

We also helped our son buy a house around the corner from us and repair it. He moved in in June. The original owner assigned the Road Home rights over to him and they just made the deadline to get their App. in. He is waiting to see if Road Home will award any money??

John, you should invest in some Lakeview property? Wait a while, sell it and buy an F-Car! :)

Is your girlfriend going to hire a contractor or sub out the repairs herself? Let me know if you're doing it yourselves and I'll supply some names of good subs. I have a few after repairing two houses!

    Good luck,
    Bob

Time did a recent cover story and while skimming one article I did see a reference to population. With this thread in mind I found it online:

"...As the city's population continues to grow — it is estimated at 262,000, well below the 455,000 before Katrina — the stress on the system is expected to increase..."
