So glad you're back, and we can start posting good threads again (an example would be '95 GTB, rosso corsa/tan, perfect paint and interior, recent major, headers, and guides, fair price)!!

BTW, congrats to Goth for not letting the place go downhill while you were gone!!

    Dear 285 Ferrari:

Wish Goth was right and I had my 355, but here's what I'm looking for.
Berlinetta 6 speed, Rosso corsa / Tan, strong compression

The "perfect" car would have a recent major, non-factory headers, steel valve guides and be cosmetically correct. I understand that I may have to make the car "perfect" on my own $, but price should reflect condition. If a great '95 came along needing a major, I'm willing to have the mechanicals updated...

A certain year you want?? 95??-----The later years usually don't have as many valve guide problems..

285, I'm just starting with the basic assumption that the guides, headers, and cats must be fixed. If they haven't been fixed, I'll have to have it done (and that will be reflected in how much I bid for a car). I wanna drive it like I stole it! Beyond that, I just prefer OBD-1 and 5 more HP...

In my biased world, the perfect rosso corsa/tan Berlinetta 6 speed 355 has Strong Compression (>200), excellent cosmetics, records, somewhat low mileage (<20k) and is 1) a properly sorted (headers, guides, cats) car of any year, 2) a factory steel valve guide '99 or late '98 with a recent major (just missed one at FoScottsdale), or 3) a '95 - early '96 380 HP at a price that reflects the need for a major (and I can have the headers QVed and guides done with the major). A '99 would be nice to just avoid the guide issue on resale, if I ever keep my promises to my wife. I see very few cars (3, I think) with both the guides and the headers properly fixed and less than 30k miles, and have yet to see a red/tan 6-speed B with all of the fixes... although I'm sure I missed the perfect car a time or two... While I'm dreaming, I'd prefer no badges, red brakes, Challenge Grill, maybe carbon interior pieces, 295s on the rear, stock or somewhat civilized mufflers at under 4k RPM...

Sorry, I just woke up from my dream. I've only been looking for eight months, since I had the driveway re-profiled for a 355 and sold my soul to my wife, including a wanted ad in Autoweek, a written request to my local dealer FoSA, and pleas on this board. According to FChat Legend, it takes at least a year to find the right car - and I do have a birthday in October...

285 - I tried to PM you but it came up on the public board. I'll try again later... I've been having problems with the board since the update.

I recently had a nice long conversation with a well respected Ferrari mechanic. He informed me that ALL 355s can be exposed to valve guide issues... I repeat, ALL INCLUDING 99s. He told me he recently (within the past 2 years) tore down a 99 355 that had a build date past the magic number and guess what... it had brozne guides. It was his professional opinion that the 95s are the BEST 355s to own. More horsepower and better software.
Sorry brothers, but he told me that the 348s have brozne guides as well and need to have the update done too. He even showed me a pile of over worn bronze guides from a 575 or a 550, I can't remember.
Lastly, I was pleased to know that the repair only adds about $2000.00 to the cost of a major. Steep, I know but not the $20,000 I had heard.
