Nice article about Kimi. Good relaxed attitude no BS with EGO or "SWIVEL". Lewis has a long way to go and alot to learn no matter how good he thinks he is. This was a pleasure to read after the dribble about the McL drivers and their pathetic situations with each other. GO KIMI :)

Raikkonen: forthcoming rounds should suit Ferrari (From Formula1.com)

After missing out on victory to Lewis Hamilton at the tight and twisting Hungaroring, Kimi Raikkonen believes that the coming races in Turkey, Italy and Belgium should give Ferrari a better chance of beating their McLaren rivals.

“At Istanbul, Monza and Spa-Francorchamps, where there are many long straights and fast corners, we should be able to play out the F2007's characteristics," said Raikkonen.

According to the Finn, Ferrari always knew they might struggle to win in Budapest, but that didn’t stop him feeling frustrated at being bottled up behind Hamilton - especially as he proved just how quickly he could have gone by setting the fastest lap at the end of the race.

“We have an excellent car and I think that the Hungaroring was the only race track so far, where we could have expected to have a slight disadvantage compared to McLaren," said Raikkonen. “If I had had a free track, I could have been much stronger.

“Before the last lap I slowed down a bit to build up some space ahead of me for a hot lap, just to see what time I could have done: we got the confirmation that we could have gone faster!"

Raikkonen now lies third in the drivers’ championship, trailing Hamilton by 20 points, but with the calendar about to return to faster, flowing circuits he believes it is still not too late to close the gap.

“Whenever we have won a race, as in Magny-Cours and at Silverstone, we made up ground,” he added. “I'm convinced that when we go back onto a similar track, we can be much more competitive.”

In the meantime, Raikkonen will be taking a well-earned break, as he enjoys some downtime in his home country ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix at the end of August.

"Often you just need to leave everything behind and just think about chilling out,” he admitted. “I did not make any special plans for the next two weeks. I'll just go with the flow. I'll play some golf, go to the sea, but mainly I will relax. The summer in Finland is perfect: and it's the right time to enjoy it!”

Nice to read theese kind of articles from the F1 world, getting tired of the negative ones...

Btw, regarding the well earned break, happen to have a boat in the same marina as Kimi has, and he is a eager boat person. In a recent Poker Run event for boats that was here in Finland Kimis boat finished 4th, and won the best boat/costume trophy (PICS: http://www.iltalehti.fi/viihde/200707296407828_vi.shtml). (we came 5th and won the "best poker hand" trophy :D)

Kimi is the "Ice Man", no doubt. I really respect his calm, level approach - very professional. Nothing seems to rattle him - which is exactly what you would want from a driver.

    i really like Kimi @ Ferrari ,
    "He is the MAN"
and i just cant stand lewis how good he thinks he is!
the only reason he is so good is because of the fast car, Mccheaters have! put him in a spyker , then see where he would have been, he has too much ego and i dont like it,
where as kimi he is COOL and Relaxed ice man style.
i think that kimi will outpace him in the next few races,
At the end of the Day kimi will do the job and win the title!!

It is nice to see comments like this about Kimi instead of the stuff we were seeing at the beginning of the season on these boards.

I agree 100%, though we still have to deal with people who apparently can't overlook his facial expressions. The man takes his racing seriously, and his demeanor reflects that.

What do you mean by "these boards?" Did you smuggle in a monkey in your hat?

    Welcome back, Senna.

True, he is not a very animated interview, but his personal life seems to get pretty animated at times!

He is very skilled, and very fast - that is all I care about.

Yes, I would say he has a much better sense of humor than most think. Usually in the harbour he is really easy going and a happy man enjoying his life with his friends. BTW both in the Poker Run and a snowmobile competition last winter he had entered himself in the race with the name of James Hunt....

I can see why Kimi would take the name. Hunt enjoyed racing as a man. Great pictures Ive seen of him, suit unzipped after a race, planted on the main straight wall, nice brew in hand and a smile. We need to allow that again and let our racing drivers enjoy such moments.
That is what is all about in end, to enjoy your situation in life. Just make the best of it. This article made my day and I appreciated your link and insights as you get to see Kimi out of the car at home. YOU are very lucky indeed :)

    KIMI.

He's such a character, even though he doesn't get all emo like Alonso and Felipe, his style is so unique in every way: driving, temperment, etc. To see what he can do with a car that should have much more trouble than 2nd place on such a track as the Hugaroring, to see what he could do in a completely unstable McLaren against Shumacher, I have no doubt he has the skill and mindset to win a WDC. Things will have to fall his way a bit for him to win this year, but it's not out of the picture, and next year, McLaren won't have access to Ferrari's trade secrets ;)

My girlfriend LOVES him. We saw him at the Omni in Indy, watched him drive up in his azure Maserati(I just love the fact that these guys drive around town instead of being driven). I tried to get her to take a picture with him, but she was just dumbfounded, it was the funniest thing I've ever seen, jaw on the floor celeb shock for a guy that 99% of Americans wouldn't be able to indentify. A great memory, pic or no. Here's a pic from the Indy interviews, which was one of my favorite parts of the USGP.

I was camping at Silverstone many years back and it turned out the guys next to us were some of James' friends from his "early days" - I can't remember the result of the race (or the year) but just before dark on Sunday evening (you *never* leave Silverstone on Sunday PM unless its by helicopter IMO) James cruised over and we all started (continued!) drinking until the wee hours - Suffice to say that Kimi would have had a hard time out-partying James :D

    Cheers,
    Ian

That is true...Kimi IS NOT as good, as entertaining, as articulate, or as hard working in testing as Hamilton...

Entertaining? In what way? On the track? I would argue against that. Off the track? I'd pick Kimi, what with stripper stories and all. :)

Articulate? Well, you can't blame the guy if his 1st language isn't English. I'm sure all of the Finnish fans don't find LH to be very articulate.

Hard working? I couldn't answer that. I don't know how many hours each have put into testing.
